Any facts, opinions, or experiences as to whether or not Glucosamine and Chondroitin is a worth while supplement to take?

These sups are pretty expensive.

A lot of people swear by it. I took it for years and found it of little value in relieving pain in my joints.

I had great success with it when I had elbow bursitus. I took a combo supp of Glucosamine, Chondroitin, and MSM. I don't know if I would take it if I did not have a problem, but it worked great when I did have a problem.

I've got, and have had shoulder problems for years. I was going to try to find some online research documents to explain the how and why's of this combination. But instead I'll just tell you that I've been using it steadily for about the past year and a half to two years, an it has helped tremedously. You won't see any kind of benefit for about 4-5 weeks. I use a dose of 500mg Glucosamine/400mg Chondroitin but have never used any with MSM. There's really no reason to go with triple strength doses higher than those. Puritans (http://www.puritan.com) usually has really good prices if you don't mind mail ordering. (I mail order everything for savings reasons) In a pinch, I'll just grab some at my local pharmacy.

A real cheap source of Glucosamine and Choindritin would be from a horse
supply store where it is a common feed supplement for horses.
The price will be around $80/kilo.

I think the recommended dose (recommended for who or what size person, I dunno) is 1,500 mg's per day. I take 1,000 mg's glucosamine only, per day, the capsules are not very expensive and I have eliminated all my previous joint pains since taking it. I didn't notice a significant improvement for around two weeks.

Recently, I've been having chronic shoulder pain when weightlifting. I upped the dosage to 2,000 mg's per day and have been having daily deep-tissue massages in the affected shoulder area. I was absolutely astonished last night when I did my shoulder workout and did not have a single pain in that shoulder.

Try it, but be consistent with it and take it easy on the affected area. I bet it'll help. I am one of the folks who'll swear by it.

I use 500 mgs. of Glucosamine Sulfate three times a day and it does help quite a bit. I also get mine through http://www.puritan.com . Wait till they have their sales for the best price.

I've been taking glucosamine/chondroitin + MSM (by Schiff) for the past two years. I have and can notice the difference when I am not using it. My orthipedic doctor told me to take it along with Advil for my knees (I have chondromalacia = runner's knee).
