I have been working out for a few months now (gym once a week but also free weights at home and i also jog once a week).

I noticed a difference in my biceps and my stomach is a fat (not got abs though) but not really progressed that much. Reading posts on here i see that a balanced diet is half of whole fitness thing? Then i realised ive not changed my diet at all really.

Im not excatly a master cook, things easily cookable in an overn like overn chips and chicken keivs is about as advanced as i get. I also hardly ever eat fruit or veg and dont take vitamine tablets and never counted callories before. But on the plus side i dont take sugar in my tea or eat chocolate or sweets and i think ive got a high metabalisem rate.

I weigh 10 stone (think thats 140 pounds) and im 5.7 (170cm) and 20 years old. Should i be aiming for a diet to loose or gain weight? Not excatly sure what weight i should be at for my height.

Would be great if sombody could post their diet that i can copy, ill eat anything (except for peppers and anything thats really difficult to make).

Thanks a lot!

Mark

ps. I also go out drinking about twice a week, how much damage is that doing? Prob gonna end up drinking more than that when i move back to university at end of september so would be great if i got on top of eating right soon. Also how do you work out your body fat percentage? Cheers!

Hey,

You sound about where you need to be weight height wise, the only question is, if, and how, you want to change your body,

My advice is -

Start taking a daily vitamin, I didnt take them at all until I was 19, and now I have a gray hair at the ripe age of 20. Some research suggests that this is caused by not having enough copper. I dont know. Ive started taking them daily now, and im interested in seeing if the gray hair disappears.

As far as recipies, I can't help you very much. Im a very plain eater.
Some of my favorites however, are as follows.

1 slice honey wheat bread
1 heaping knifeful Jif Extra crunchy PB
-

1 chicken breast, grilled on the foreman, spiced with seasoning salt, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, thymes, seasoning salt, and pepper.
1 bag success brown 8 minute boil-in-the-bag rice. Covered in way to many squirts of "I cant believe its not butter spray".
-

2 slices bread
3-4 slices 98% fat free turkey/ham
less then a tablespoon light mayo (dukes, 50 cal per serving)
-

low fat cottage cheese (small curd)
splenda
vanilla extract
-

1 scoop whey
1 glass milk
blend.

As for the beer, being in the same situation as you, Ive really not had that many problems with it. Last year I ate pretty decent and could do 3-5 mixed drinks a few times a week and still lose weight. (with roughly a 700 calorie deficit, but I wasnt very strict about it, and alcohol wasnt counted, just the food. So I ate for a 700 calorie deficit every day and just drank when i wanted to. Probably not best for muscle mass, but it worked for me.)

Over the summer I worked traveling construction 10 hour days 6-7 days a weed. I drank ALOT of beer, atleast a few, atleast 3-4 days a week, and I ate pizza and fast food exclusivly. But I still managed to come out a good deal stronger and leaner then before.

Your milage may very, these are just my experiences.

Not trying to hijack the thread but I just wanted to interject about the gray hair thing. I started going gray at 16. My mother and father were early grayers as well, so I'm sure genetics plays a role in this. I have taken multivitamins daily for the past 2 years and not had any reversal. If anything I have acquired more gray. Like I always say though, better that it turn gray than turn loose. :D
