Update!!

I just called eCost and the Nike Triax C-8 is brand new in factory packaging and sells for $69.99 + $4.99 handling + free shipping.

The next cheapest store was over $100.00!!! So this is a great deal.

Anyway, I know people are probably sick of me posting, but hey, those of us looking for a new heart monitor just got a great deal. One side note... they are out of stock til Thursday, but will then be here! Sweeeeeeeeet

What does everyone recommend for a nice heart monitor to wear while doing cardio, and even during the day to monitor my heart rate? I was leaning towards one of the watch style ones... but am not too sure.

Any online stores or brick and mortar stores that offer a good deal?

I am brand new to monitoring my heart rate, but feel it is important for me to maximize my cardio workouts.

Thanks!

I suspect you will get a lot of recommendations towards Polar monitors - and rightly so as they are excellent monitors. Its just they lack a little style which would allow me personally at least to wear it at any other times other than in the gym or whatever.

I bought a Nike Triax series HR watch because I wanted one that would look good to wear as a watch and not just in the gym. It was pretty expensive though I must admit. Its a quality piece of kit however.

I am looking at the Nike Triax as well. I am definitely interested in one that can connect to the PC via firewire or USB. I'll keep you posted :-)

Yeah I'm very happy with mine, it looks nice. I think the ones you can hook up to your PC are really expensive though.

I got mine from www.drugstore.com. I purchased the Polat Beat. At the time it was 24.99. I think they are up to 29.99 now. All it gives is the heart rate, but that is all I needed. It works great and couldn't be simpler. They have other models with lots of bells and whistles. I really like that site, as they put things on sale which will be 20% or more cheaper than anything else you can find. Happy shopping. (No, I don't have a financial interest in drugstore.com)

I just ran across this at e-cost dot com. The Nike Triax C-8 is selling elsewhere for $119.00 but eCost has it for $69.00!!!! Not sure if they made an error or what but I am ordering one!

A little late, but I really like Polar A3. Cheap too.

I bought one of the Mio units.
I had one that used a chest strap and had problems with it not shutting off... the transmitter battery would not last longer than a month, but it was supposed to last something like 3 years if used an hour a day.
The Mio is a nice ECG style unit... contact pads on the back and face, so it's a normal watch (and looks normal) until you press on the face contacts.
I think it was about $100.
