View Full Version : ATW question and comment...
opela77 August 13th, 2004, 01:01 PM Well I guess I will start a new thread since my post was deleted in the "All the Whey review" thread. Although I disagree with its removal, I shall play by the rules. A quick recap of what was in the old post... I simply stated that I requested some product samples (free or to buy) and I was declined. No big deal I am just less likely to switch from ON since ON has been tested and proven. I did give them 2 thumbs up on customer service and email response time. Now to my question in the post:
I have compared the nutritional info between the isolate and the blend and the labels look very similar. There are a few differences but small ones at that. Now I am no Protein expert so someone please clarify. Are the small differences in the nutritional info significant enough to make a clear distinction between an Isolate and a Blend? I have never tried an Isolate before so any comments would help me in my decision.
Below is a pic of the labels, the Isolate is on top and the Blend is on bottom. Thanks for all the help!!!
supirman August 13th, 2004, 01:07 PM just a higher protein percentage. use the blend, the cost factor outweighs the small bit of extra protein, 1g less of carbs, and 1g less fat per serving. Not to mention, the isolate tastes worse.
Craevenwulfe August 13th, 2004, 03:20 PM Isolate allegedly also has a different absorption rate than the concentrate. Basically it's very easily read up on.
Isolate is better than concentrate.
Isolate costs more.
Do you want to pay more for the improvement?
Judging by the fact _you_ can't tell the difference the quick answer for u _you_ is
"No."

Actually I have read up on it... Maybe you should read my question again.
"Are the small differences in the nutritional info significant enough to make a clear distinction between an Isolate and a Blend?"
All the Isolates I have seen in the past are more expensive but the nutritional values vary a lot more. The labels I posted are very similar, which makes me question ATW brand isolates.
Here is an article I read recently... http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/willbrink3.htm
I read the Isolate section and some flags went up.
Thanks for the responses!
John Stone August 13th, 2004, 04:54 PM Well I guess I will start a new thread since my post was deleted in the "All the Whey review" thread. Although I disagree with its removal, I shall play by the rules.Huh? Was that really necessary? The reason your post was removed was made very clear (http://forums.johnstonefitness.com/showthread.php?t=7401) - the thread you posted it in is for product reviews only. The whole thing was no big deal, so I don't understand what purpose the above prefacing remarks served - unless you are trying to imply some kind of bias, which clearly doesn't exist. What's your problem? Why didn't you just create a new thread and ask your question without adding needless drama?

Easy John.... I guess I should have put a smily face. I was not trying to be a jerk... I guess my sarcastic humor doesnt show through on the web. I thought the "I shall play by the rules" remark would speak for itself.
I apologize if I have rubbed you the wrong way, that has not been my intention. I comletely agree that is was no big deal. If it was a big deal I would have taken my ball on gone home. I dont have a problem and I am not making drama. I hope this clears things up. From here on out I vow to start making use of the all the little emoticons!!! :D
Thanks

Yes. :read:
Reading the article that you 'read recently,' one can gather that isolate is tha shizzie:
Isolates...Processing whey protein to remove the lactose, fats, etc. without losing its biological activity takes special care by the manufacturer. Maintaining the natural undenatured state of the protein is essential to its anti-cancer and immune stimulating activity. The protein must be processed under low temperature and/or low acid conditions as not to "denature" the protein and this becomes an even greater concern when making high grade isolates vs, concentrates.
Lets look at an example:
I buy my pops single malt scotch from time to time. It is usually more expensive than the blended stuff due to many reasons, complexity of manufacturing, age, and taste are a few. I peak into his cabinet and I see nothing but blended scotches. Blended is usually cheaper, can you guess why? It is all 'scotch,' with small differences.
Moral of this is:
If someone askes you what you want as a gift, say isolate. If your buying for yourself, say blend?? :D
Just my thoughts on it all.

alright man come on. You really need to stop with the dumb humor, even that last sarcastic one.
For your question, isolate is better because of NO CARBS AND NO LACTOSE. Depending on ur body, this may be better than blends. If u are a serious lifter, go with it. If u are rich, go with it. If u are inhuman and think it tastes better, go for it. For you, me, and most others, blends are perfect (ATW is better than ON pricewise). ON may taste better, but when it comes down to it, ive given up on everythng i put in my mouth tasting sweet:) you should to. Any more questions?
