As you all know they have several kinds of dumbbells out there.

Hexogonal
Plate
hammer strength
Plastic

etc etc etc....

I'd like to know what you all find to add the most to your work outs?

I know myself that when I use HEX or HAMMER DB's it don't do it for me... in the arm area most certinly. I have to have plate DB's to add size and feel the burn.

Also, it seems like the more weight the less I feel it too. I can curl 130 lbs easily "on the EZ bar" for 10 to 12 reps... but it don't feel near like it does when I just go it with 60 -- 70 and 80 lbs on the bar.

Why is this?

Hexogonals rock They dont role away from me when i kickem.
I am gonna take a guess at the burn being the lactic acid buid up in the muscle. I fail usually before the lactic buildup if the weight is close to my max but at lower weights i can get more reps which does seem to burn more. Could also be that the concentration involved in the heigher weights filters out some of the pain. If your form is good then you can look over this next one. As the weight gets heavier people tend to involve far more muscles in the movement instead of keeping it as a isolation movement they include their back and legs and bodyweight to add momentum to the movement and this actually makes the intended muscles work much less than on lower weights

I like whatever dbs go up into the mid 100 range, like 140-150. Most gyms suck and can't accomodate me though. I usually just stick to the bars.

I'm so used to plate bells that using hexes just feels all unbalanced and pisses me off. I'm all about the plate dbs.
