Does anyone know of a "good" meal replacement bar? When I say good, I mean not only is good for you, but taste good also.

I ask because yesterday, before my run, I ate what I thought was a good protein bar. After I got back from my run, I noticed it had 180 calories, 60 of those from fat! I also noticed it had 3.5g of sat. Fat. When I bought it, all I noticed was the 15g of protein.

Is it ok to eat a protein bar before a workout? When I got home, I ate 1/4 cup of trail mix, and 1 cup fat free yogurt with whey protein in it. I had Gatorade for a drink. Was this good?

All of the meal replacement bars I've had are good. You'll get some calories eating the protein bars. They aren't just protein.

For basic information, ALL BARS ARE CRAP!! No seriously, most of them are overpriced, have high sugar contents, and the protein is bad quality.

In the rare cases that u see something different, remember the U-turn bars and Meso-Tech bars? PPl were so impressed with the 'labeled' ingrediants, that they had them tested. It turns out that the company lied about the nutritional info!

Cottage cheese and maybe low cal yogurts are much better options. However, when i am really in a rush, i grab an EAS Carb Control Bar, mostly becuase the sugar is really low and its a repuatble company. ALso, the taste is very offensive, so try them at ur own discretion!!

I don't eat alot of them, but when I do I really like Tri-O-Plex (http://www.dpsnutrition.com/newsite/get_by_164.htm) bars. The Rocky Road DUO bars, and Cookie Dough Chocolate Chip are my favorites. LARABAR's (https://www.larabar.com/secure/index_.html) are REALLY good as well.

LATE EDIT: (I do this alot) Place LARABAR's first and Tri-O-Plex second. I just ate two LARABAR's...the things taste incredible, and they're whole food to boot.

I agree with Specialbear. There's something wrong with expecting a source of high protein and low carbs to taste like a granola bar, or a brownie, or a chocolate chip cookie. To get those tastes requires ingredients that are high in calories, concentrated in simple carbs, or full of chemicals (ie. artificial sweeteners). If you want a good source of protein, eat a chicken breast. If you want a brownie or a granola bar, eat one of those.

I eat protein bars once in a while, but I compromise on each of those wants. I look for something that tastes a little bit similar to a granola bar but with an added boost of protein or vitamins in it.

i like clif bars. They do have a lot of sugar though. I can get away with it because i'm a "skinny bastard". But they are mostly organic and are made with only real food

I recently tried these Labrada Rockin' Roll Bars (http://labrada.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=protein_bars&Store_Code=labrada&Action=ADPR&Product_Code=MR-0265&Attributes=Yes&Quantity=1) and they taste great and seem to have much less sugar than most bars.
