View Full Version : Experiment!

I'm doing an experiment, let me tell you all some things about me, first.

I'm trying to get my 6-pack, heh, anyway I'm like 5"9 170 pounds. Probably 20ish pounds from the 6-pack, but hey here is my theory:

I've heard over and over how the body is very, very smart, examples: need to change calories, routines etc because the body will stop losing weight and gaining muscles etc.

So, if the body is that smart, can it remember the wait it used to be? Probably.

Untill second grade, I actually had abs showing, I was not a bone, either, I probably look as a 160 pound 5"9 lean person, as a kid.

After second grade, I went to hospital, I had some weird thing called "per-pia" So I could not eat anything that was sharp because it would mess my body up, I had blood in my bowels, anyway: I was so hungry and craving so much food, after I got out of hosptial (4 days later heh) my mother let me eat fast food.

Soon after, my brother bought me a playstation and hooked me on final fantasy 7, which made me want the others (in the future) making me more a couch potato

When I was a fit-little-boy, I ate probably 3 meals a day, moderate healthy (mom did not let me have junk food at all sept partys) and when I was bored, sports! I played with my friends outside.

So after second grade, I began to eat crappier, and sit more.

8 years later, I am playing EverQuest, the game, 14 hours a day, not moving alot, and eating only fast food, I was 270 pounds.

I then went on a diet, ate 3 meals a day normal healthy-ish, and walked alot, 2+ hours a day, and dropped 100 pounds.

So it seems lots of cardio like when I was little and eating 3 meals, not so big, and healthy a day was what kept my body in fit-form, now my question is..

Will it work again? Will my old, very old habits make me get my 6-pack?

We will see. Starting on Wednesday, August 11th, 2004, I will change my lifestyle to the lifestyle I had when I was like 7-8 years old, I will not sit on the computer anymore when I am bored, no more video games, and I will eat 3 meals a day, moderate healthy, I will play sports when I am bored, and I will sleep 10-12 hours a day like I did when I was 7-8, I might be on to something. I think the body can go back to its old habits if you show it the ways again (kind of how you never forget how to ride a bike?)

Wish me luck, have a good one, a very good one at that. Thank you for letting me type all this to you all. Good luck with everything you do)

I wish you luck friend, but I must point out especially one thing that I feel is not quite right in your logic.

I agree that the body has some kind of "memory", that it is easier to get back in shape than to get in shape the first time. What I find hard to believe is that you as an adult would benefit that much from living as a 7-yearold. Yes, it could be good for you, but remember, a 7-yo is still growing. He hasn't even reached puberty. Sleeping that much when you really NEED that much rest is fine, but do YOU need that much rest? Probably not. Maybe you can sleep for 10-12 hours the first two days, but after that I bet you will be tossing and turning in your bed without being able to sleep at all.

Other than that, I think it's a great idea to play sports when you're bored. If you can keep that up I think that will help you more than sleeping that much.

Edit: Oops, I didn't quite look at your age. As a teenager you might be able to sleep more, but I still don't think that much sleep is necessary.

Heh, any more than 9-10 hours and I toss and turn, so you might be right

Good decision and good ideas. I would just throw out a suggestion that helped to get me from flabby to fit - don't go with the three square meals a day -- do the six meals/day (each about half the size of your typical 3-meal portion).

That keeps the blood sugars level throughout the day, helps keep the cravings down, and helps you avoid overeating when you're feeling famished. Look at John Stone's website for his program and eating regimine you'll get the idea.

Let us know how you're doing.

It is kind of hard to go anymore than 3 a day, with school and all max I can do is 4 a day (morning, lunch a school, after school and dinner later on) I don't feel comfertable eating in class, and I don't think teachers like it heh

When I was in my late teens I could lift weights, do no cardio, and as long as my eating was clean eat whatever the hell I wanted. It was quite interesting. Now at 26, that surely isn't the case.

Kids have a high metabolism, and are expending tons of calories on growth. At your age you aren't, so what worked then may not now.

Your idea is a great motivator. You enjoyed being active as a kid and miss that as an adult. Thinking about your childhood lifestyle is a fine way to find opportunities to increase happiness as an adult.

The things you'll hear from others in this forum are about tactics-- what and when to eat-- not about your vision. So keep that idea about getting back to a more energetic and carefree life as your goal. Then use the knowledge in this forum to learn about food and exercise so you can gain that new, healthy lifestyle you had as a child.
