View Full Version : wierd indicators of weight loss :)
Filthysock August 10th, 2004, 05:12 AM What odd things have you noticed besides the scale going down?
The funniest thing that i noticed this morning was my 'fat role crease mark' has moved down 2 inches towards my belly button!
heh heh
Knubb August 10th, 2004, 05:38 AM I'm not sure how odd it is, but a few weeks ago I was able to see the bottom of my belly button for the first time in my life.
golden^balls August 10th, 2004, 09:14 AM Finding new veins that a popping out, thats gotta be the best one
My spiderman vein (underside of the forearm) is just rearing its head.
The Mike August 10th, 2004, 09:20 AM Yeah i've had the vein thing, posted a pic in the media section a few months back where I had a tonne of veins creeping up from my waist :D
It's also nice when under your belly button it's just flat, not bumps.
Sadly for me I've lost a fair bit of vascularity and gained a bit of fat as a result of trying to bulk and not eating enough of the right food, but I can get it back :)
Wilderbeast August 10th, 2004, 11:15 AM I got one, before my office chair used to slowly lose air through the day so i would ajust it up 2 or 3 times a day now it doesnt lose any :D
murph3699 August 10th, 2004, 11:36 AM My shorts won't stay on w/out a belt now. This almost became a problem at the airport because my belt buckle was causing the metal detector to go off. I had to hold my shorts up while I walked through the second time.
Timbermiko August 10th, 2004, 11:43 AM Drilling extra holes in my lifting belt to make it smaller :D
Jimbo August 10th, 2004, 11:50 AM My wedding ring slides off the finger easily now. In fact, it slides up and down my finger as I move my hands doing normal daily stuff.
Kinda makes me realize how long it has been since I've been in decent shape. Been married 8 years :D
Fly_Moe August 10th, 2004, 12:54 PM Since I've been working out, eating right, and losing weight, I've mainly been looking at my love handles and abs to see my progress. The other day someone told me my face looks like it's getting skinner. I looked in the mirror and they were right. Needless to say I was surprised and pleased with that. I can't believe I never noticed it before. I guess when you get obsessed with certain parts of your body, you don't notice improvements in other areas.

Mine does the same thing, the wife things I've been taking it off, too often lol
Jim August 10th, 2004, 02:14 PM Veins in my hands (i never had that before), the veins around my biceps are showing, and my forearms are getting more defined, the face ofcourse aswell.
I've got a long way to go though untill I'm happy.
GraffitiDan August 11th, 2004, 09:39 PM When I shake my stomach/torso, it takes less than a second to stop jiggling ... Previously it took as much as 2 or 3 (full) seconds.
maeson August 11th, 2004, 11:04 PM strechmarks loosing color
added a new belt hole last week
its easier to shave (no more big pudgy cheeks)

man I know that one.... I can put it on any finger on my hand now. Even my Thumb :tu: . Bad thing is that it's titanium, so it can't get resized and my wife is pushing me to get a new one So I can wear it again.
Another side effect.... I can't hold liquor AT ALL(which I use to be able). I had my first drink since the start at around 6 months. I found out the hard way
1 shot = buzzed
3 shots = Whats my name ??? lol

haha, yeah. That happened to me last week.
SnotFu August 12th, 2004, 03:24 AM I've got muscles I have never seen in my life! I look at my arm and go "What the hell is that? Sweet!" Then I flex it for 20 minutes and get bored.
Can't wait 'til I can see my, well, that area down there, without needing a mirror. :o
1FastGTX August 12th, 2004, 04:03 AM I saw veins in my quads for the first time not too long ago! That was pretty cool!
This is a great thread, lots of cool replies.
Barney August 12th, 2004, 04:49 AM Then I flex it for 20 minutes and get bored.:o
Bored?? Never!! Im constantly tensing my biceps, still getting used to the idea of having them (may never happen.. getting used to that is)
Acne since losing weight my Acne has cleared up completely, i have biceps and clear skin :jumping: oh and also when i was fat my skin colour had this dull pale look to it always got remarks about that, kind of zombie-esque. Now people coment on how nice my skin tone is, from girls of all people!!
Jim August 12th, 2004, 03:15 PM I'm constantly touching up my Triceps since they actually show through now, It's great
born sleepy August 12th, 2004, 03:57 PM Can't wait 'til I can see my, well, that area down there, without needing a mirror. :o
well, one indicator of weight loss is yer junk looks bigger! :D
if it was common knowledge then there wouldn't be any fat men.

True that. Funny story though on the flipside of that. A friend of mine told me about a party he was at for work one time, and one of his friends was really into bodybuilding and he was there too. Well they all got naked and jumped into a hot tub together, and his friend didn't want to but my buddy couldn't understand why (he was saying things like "I didn't get it, hot naked chicks and he didn't wanna join in!"). Well finally he did get in, and then everyone found out why he didn't want to - apparently his quads were so huge that his "junk" looked like nothing! I remember my friend saying something like "actually he wasn't like 1 inch or anything, but his legs were so damn big that it looked like he was nothing down there!"
That story kept me from the squat rack for like a month!!!!!
Filthysock October 2nd, 2004, 05:17 AM another one for this
1. getting carded for the first time in years
2. the bouncer having trouble believing that the photo of the driver's license is me :)
TaxiTodd October 2nd, 2004, 06:14 AM After 10 Weeks;
It is easier to shave without the waddle under my chin.
Fewer, if any, "zit type things" on my upper legs.
My joints don't get sore as much as they did before.
My feet don't hurt when standing for long periods of time.
~Todd
lostmind October 2nd, 2004, 06:17 AM my knee doesnt hurt me now when I play sports...
I have a couch with recliners built in. When I was a bit heavier and I sat on the couch I could feel the metal bars thru the cushions, now I don't :)
don_1987 October 2nd, 2004, 06:54 AM I have some indicator too... I've been to the tailor twice this year so that he will decrease the size of the waist on my pants, I also had to buy a new belt because the last one looks pretty ugly cause I drill holes every month. I can see my veins quite some time ago, but now I'm surprosed by the veins below the abs. Oh, and one more thing, abs starting to pop out, already got 4 and half now, 1 1/2 left for a 6 pack... :claphigh: But I might miss them for a while cause I need to bulk a bit... :( But I'll regain them back, that's for sure :db:
D.A.C. October 2nd, 2004, 06:57 AM My face now has edges and a prominent jawline, so it's an absolute pain in the A to shave my face now. :p
Gillisc October 2nd, 2004, 07:56 AM What odd things have you noticed besides the scale going down?
The funniest thing that i noticed this morning was my 'fat role crease mark' has moved down 2 inches towards my belly button!
heh heh
Lots of "first" experiences this year:
Realizing just how food-ignorant I USED to be.
Buying smaller pants, then buying another size smaller a month later.
Getting pants tailored so I don't have to keep buying new pants.
Buying an "extra large" sized belt in the boys section of the store.
Buying an "extra small" watch band because my old one ran out of links to remove.
SHopping for, but then realizing I didn't quite need to buy a 1/2 size smaller shoe.
Seeing veins I never knew I had.
Seeing muscle definition when I'm not even flexing.
Hypersensitivity to the type and construction of the chair I'm sitting in at any given time, due to lack of fat in my ass cushioning my hip bones.
A lasting feeling of coldness eminating through my entire abdomen if I quickly drink something cold on an empty stomach (this always used to happen a tiny bit, like I could feel it right at the bottom of my stomach - now it seems to spread throughout my entire abdomen).
Listening to reactions of people who I haven't seen for a while, both misguided concerns and well-wishers.
After a while, becoming able to predict which people, based on their own physical condition, would react to my changes with misguided concerns, or congradulations.
Having a physician tell me "you're in great shape".
Being mistaken for younger than I am, again and again.
Having grown-up "jock"-types (of whom I've somwhow still managed to harbor a tiny bit of fear & distain for, all these years after high school) telling this grown-up "nerd"-type that they admire what he's done.
Feeling OK that I have loose, flabby skin on my stomach and ass. Even though it just won't go away, it still feels better than solid, heavy, thick fat that used to be there.
Sitting comfortably with my legs crossed at the knees (as opposed to putting one ankle on the other knee) and not crushing... anything.
rooster October 2nd, 2004, 07:59 AM Having my (now apparantly cliche) LIVESTRONG (for cancer research) bracelet fall further down my arm when it used to just stick up around the wrist like it's supposed to. :)
CASD October 2nd, 2004, 08:29 AM Thinner face
Starting to see some ab's lines (side verticals)
I can't get over my calf size...
Started doing Dips the first of the week and can't get over how my body has responded to them
No more fat bulges in my arm pits.. I've lost 3.5ins in the chest because of this
You can't see my gut with a T-Shirt on
My X-Large T-Shirts are starting to look like oversized bags on me... I'll be switching to Larges soon..
adamc October 2nd, 2004, 10:24 AM My Polar chest strap had been extended to its maximum possible size for a very long time. Then suddenly a few weeks ago it just slid down my chest while I was on the bike. I cinched it up, but since then, it's slid down again twice more.
Now, each time I put it on I'm kinda hoping it's gonna slide down again.
CASD October 2nd, 2004, 11:15 AM Yea! I can't wait for mine to slide down the first time.. :)
DeafNgari October 2nd, 2004, 01:31 PM The wierdest indicator to me... was when I decided I had gone far enough and wanted bulk. It had never occured to me that I might try to put on weight one day. I still laugh about it at times. The other wierd... well more funny than wierd was being able to take off and put my pants without unbuttoning them. I was/am totally at the mercy of my belt as I slowly replace me wardrobe.
BamaDave October 2nd, 2004, 02:05 PM Deeper armpits!!! :D
I think that's as much or more of a consequence of weight training as the weight loss.
But I mean, come on. Sometimes you need an extension pole for the antiperspirant to make it to the bottom of the pit!

CASD October 2nd, 2004, 02:48 PM Also the deception when you start losing weight and your mid gets flabby/loose skin..makes you think your not losing or gaining..
CASD October 2nd, 2004, 07:27 PM I got one more... I just fit in some pants I haven't be able to wear since March.. :claphigh:
inurb October 2nd, 2004, 07:35 PM I started to notice fat loss when...
I saw veins in my waist and chest and when I could see the top two abs. That's when I knew what I was doing was actually giving me results.
PeteBDawg October 2nd, 2004, 07:43 PM Sensitivity to cold weather. I used to go out in 30 degree (F) weather in a T-shirt sometimes, and it didn't bother me. Now I get chilly on summer nights, especially my arms.
And I second whoever mentioned sitting. I actually have to shift around a bit now - my diminished tucchus fat no longer serves as enough cushioning, especially on park benches and the subway.
Oh, and I can fit in the bathtub real easily.

Forgot about that one... I use to give my mom and sister grief about getting cold so easily, and now, I am the first one to reach for a jacket. It is even worse now that I got rid of my hair.
jgmx October 2nd, 2004, 10:55 PM Acne since losing weight my Acne has cleared up completely, i have biceps and clear skin :jumping:

so many to count (I've lost 100lbs or so, another 10 or so to go).
So here are my top 3
i) On an airplane when getting in the seat I now find almost all the time I need to bring the belt in from the previous occupant rather than letting it out.
ii) When walking the fat at the tops of my legs doesn't chafe and cause me pain anymore :o
iii) When I measure my waist with a tape measure my girlfriend can get into the hole that the old 100lbs used to occupy and there is STILL space left.
Also, on another item of feeling the cold, yes, I am the same. I feel it a lot more now too. Oh dear, it is Autumn (I am a Brit, so say Autumn opposed to fall), which means Winter is on its way)
hars October 3rd, 2004, 03:20 PM my belly button isnt as deep any more!!!
dledeaux October 3rd, 2004, 03:27 PM Washing my hands, and watching the muscle definition in my arms as my hands twist. Same with brushing my teeth.

This is me, too. My wife and I used to play the battle of the thermometers. I was always hot, she was always cold. Now I am more cold-sensitive than she is. The good news is, we are using the A/C a lot less. Of course, we use the heater more, but since we live in a warm climate, it's better to cut back on the A/C. :D
Graphite October 3rd, 2004, 09:22 PM Being able to wear shorts I used to wear in the 7th grade.. (10th grade now)
Watching my 7th grade shorts slide down without a belt LOL
Being able to wear larges since a long time
Finding that my XL shirts looks like a sleeping bag
Seeing my muscle definition when I brush my teeth
Seeing all the veins pop out my hands and some peeking through my arm
A jaw line
Checking out my calf muscles
and it goes on and on. :tu:
tprince October 3rd, 2004, 11:49 PM Now that my face is getting thinner, it is harder to shave. Some of the whiskers are hidden under bones in my jaw.
tan_pao_wei October 4th, 2004, 08:52 AM No more one big round stomach when i sit down, with a "line" added between the stomach now. Soon a 2nd line will appear across the belly button!
