Hi, well IŽam doing 45 mins cardio on a stationary bike each day, and the bike shows at the end that i have burned 600-650 calories in the session, is this number more or less right?? How much calories should i burn or would be the best in each session.
Thanks for your advice.

Most machines overestimate burned Calories by 15-30% or more (some as bad as 50%). If this machine takes your weight into account to calculate burned Calories, it is probably closer to accurate.
I suggest you reduce your weight by 20% and enter that into the machine, it should give you a closer projection to what you are actually burning.

Im going to have to ask you to bear with me here, as im bringing to you a very newbie question.
When i have been on the stair machine at the gym and it tells me i have done 600 calories, (not counting the overestimate mentioned above), is that the complete amount of energy that i will have spent with the workout, or is the number still rising after i leave the gym?
(not sure if that made any sense at all)

The number of calories burnt keeps increasing even after you have stepped off the machine, at a lower rate though. I am not sure how long this goes on for.
You can see this on a heart rate monitor that also displays calories burnt. Once you step off the machine, the calories burnt still keep increasing.

Forget those readouts. How many kcals you burn during cardio is irrelevant for fat loss. Half the time, the number listed on the readout is incorrect anyhow. Besides, X amount of KCALS burned from WHAT? Fat? Glycogen? Lean muscle tissue?
The key is to get fat mobilized by the correct form of cardio. That is the key, as that continues well after the cardio stops, and you are burning fat, not just KCALS during the session. Actual KCALS burned should never be the focus, as cardio should be used to get fat moving and burning, and sending the message to let stored bodyfat go. That is the benefit of cardio, not how many KCALS you burned during that session.
