Just had measles at age 30 :d_frown:
Last workout was July 29...it has been 11 days since then! My physical condition and consideration of infecting someone else with this communicable sickness did not allow me to have even the lightest workout during those times...Right now, am feeling kinda low after not having been able to even take a peek at the gym much less touch iron during these times...For the first time in four months, am not happy with myself! :d_frown:
Am back at work after getting a go clearance from the doctor but still am not sure if I should start lifting weights...I still have some cough as one of the complications from the measles...Am thinking of going to a light workout tonight after work, then go heavy tomorrow..even if I still have my cough...
Anyone here ever had this same concern? Any advise guys?

My first trainer used to say, "Listen to your body". He wanted to impress upon me the importance of taking care of my body, which includes being able to understand when it's not up to the challenge. You may be up to it mentally, and you may be able to push through it physically because of that. But because your body is still healing itself, you'll be diverting resources to recovering from your illness and not necessarily to body development. So, if you're not going to gain the full effects of training, there's little point to performing the workout. You'll gain relatively little, feel bad while doing it, and worse still, you could cause your medical woes to flare up again - or injure yourself. I don't know about you, but I'm weaker after being sick and I wouldn't want to do myself harm by trying to lift - even lightly - when I'm not 100%.
Eleven days is not the end of the world. Go back when you're fully healed.

If you feel up to it, than go ahead. Just go very easy on yourself. But heed the warnings of Bluestreak. You could potentially injure yourself.

I always take a one week break after 8 straight weeks of training. What I concentrate on during my 1st week back is to re-familiarize myself with the excercises again and always go down in weight. On the 2nd week back, I go heavy again. My 3rd week back is when I start to see improvements in strength and size.

Thanks for this valuable advise, Blustreak!!! I heed this, rested my recovering body and only went back to working out last Wednesday...after 13 days of inactivity!! The wait and rest was all worth it...am feeling better and stronger now and had no relapse of any symptoms (fever or body malaise) of my fight with measles...thanks a lot man!!! I will always keep this advise of yours in mind the next time something like that happens again!! :tu:
my thanks also to WeightsAweigh and Ematsuda!!! :)
