just a quick question ..... I have been reading here about keeping your diet clean and eating wholesome unprocessed foods, but what about condiments? can I use things like tomato sauce and brown sauce e.t.c to give my meals that extra flavour, or will this harm my diet? (P.s. I am trying to lose weight if that has any impact????)

Usually tomato and brown sauce contain alot of sugar which is something ur gonna want to avoid while on fat-loss. But, a lot of organic manufacturers peoduce certainly tomato sauce and possibly brown sauce with no added sugar.
Other popular condinments like mayo need caution because of their fat content, although only about 15-20% of the fat is usually standard, do try to go for the lower fat alternatives to save on calories.

In any case, it is usually best to go for organic manufacturers as they tend to contain less additives that could hurt the progress of your fat-loss.

Using ketchup or a fat-free tartar sauce would be fine, if you don't mind the extra sodium.

I would die without ketchup and hot sauce.

When I eat tomato sauce I make it myself so I know no sugar has been added. Its so easy and almost as good as grandma makes it.

Just make sure you log those extras in your food log. That way you are not misleading yourself on how many calories you are eating daily. Keeping a food log is key to loosing weight. I started eating better 2 years ago but once I started keeping a food log I realized how many mistakes I was really making.

Ketchup contains High Fructose Corn Syrup and has a fairly high carb count - dpending on how much you use. Organic ketchup is without the corn syrup and tastes the same (to me)!

Mustard is good - not too much in there.

Any opinions on Soy sauce? I love it on chicken. Anything to be concerned about other than all the sodium?

And, to contribute to the topic, lemon juice is a great condiment for adding flavor to tuna, chicken, brown rice, etc.

Soy sauce has quite a bit of sodium, depending on the brand. Other than that, it's not too bad.

I'm all about hot sauce! Does it really have a thermogenic effect?
