The first step in tackling this kind of problem is to take a good hard look at what your eating habits are NOW.

A good place to start is to begin writing down everything (absolutely everything) that you eat, how much, and when. After doing this for several days you will be in a better position to determine what foods you "can't live without" and which ones you might be able to "give up" in favor of more nutritional choices.

Additionally, other factors enter into this:

What are your current stats? (height, weight, age, etc.)

What are your fitness goals? (building muscle, burning fat, improving cardiovascular health, building strength, etc.)

Check out Weight Watchers. They're the best program out there, in my opinion. They teach people how to eat healthily and sustain those habits. Their program also teaches people how to navigate the "real world" of food. You can still eat anything you want. The key here is that it emphasizes the importance of portion size and balanced nutrition. They've made it unbelievably simple to follow, too. No weigh-ins, no meetings. You can do it all via the internet if you want. I strongly urge you to check out their website. I have several friends and clients who have lost large amounts of weight and kept it off using Weight Watchers.

Good luck :tu:

Not a flame, but Weight Watchers is a HORRID approach for those looking to KEEP/ATTAIN lean muscle tissue, and drop BODYFAT. If you want to be a smaller, just-as-fat person, then go for it. Only you can decide when you think about what your goals are.

I know of where I speak, as I've assisted a plethora of former Weight Watcher's enthusiasts, as well as Body-For-Lifer's. Trust me, there are FAR better, more permanent approaches out there. Ones where you eat REAL FOOD, not pre-packaged crap, counting cards/meal exchanges/etc.
