My work is having a blood drive and I was just wondering what the implications of giving blood a few hours before doing cardio were. If I do it early enough, will I notice a difference?

just a quick thought:

less blood = less oxygen transportation = poor performance.

Our blood center says "no vigorous exercise" the same day after donating blood, and no lifting heavy objects for 24 hours.

I'd say that means no HIIT cardio, no lifting (duh), and I'd wait at least several hours before any low-intensity cardio.

In my experience, it's best to lay off ANY exercise for the rest of the day, and even vigorous exercise the next day. I've donated over 6 gallons, and the couple of times I've tried cardio (or cycling) the next morning I have simply pooped out very quickly. It probably won't hurt you, but it's not very satisfying. This may vary by individual, so just try it out if you want.

By the second day after, I'm always fully recovered. I just try and plan to do my donation in an off week from exercise (which happens every 8 weeks for me, coinciding with the frequency that we can donate here.)

By all means, take the time to donate, even if it disrupts your workout schedule a little bit. It's worth it.

Dont do any excersize for at least 12 hours after giving blood !!!! At least !!!!!

But.

Give blood mate, its a great thing to do. Worth skipping 1 cardio session to save someones life. I give blood whenever i can, you never know, ur blood type might be a rare one !!!

Its one of the best things you can do. But dont do any excersize afterwards.

Best Case Scenario: You have a poor cardio session because you are winded and tire easily.

Worst Case Scenario: You pass out from lack of oxygen transport and seriously hurt yourself.

There is a reason why they say not to excersize for at least 12 hours after you donate, and better if not for 24 hours or more after.
