View Full Version : I've finally cracked it.
Andrew M Thu, August 5th, 2004, 06:38 AM It was my 30th birthday yesterday, am I finally 'got it' with regards to my weightloss/fitness/strength/etc. I was out for dinner with my wife, and was washing my hands in the loo when a short little phrase popped into my head that encompasses the whole situation for me.
"Hard work, every day"
It's as simple as that. When I get to the gym, I put the effort in, but I should be there more frequently. Where my downfall is usually, is the amount of rubbish I eat. Diet needs to be all the time, every day. On a 'big night out' I can easily ruin a good week of exercise and diet.
Why oh fucking why did it take so long for me to realise this simplicity?
Andrew.
gfresh Thu, August 5th, 2004, 06:47 AM yup, its called Will power..
:)
good work mate
metron9 Thu, August 5th, 2004, 09:54 AM Yep, it's not a diet its a lifestyle.
Just a side note the F word could be edited to something like frekin as there are alot of young kids and not in front of the women comes to mind.
:D
Skoorb Thu, August 5th, 2004, 10:59 AM That's a fine mantra. Mine is slightly different: Work hard, 6 days/week. On the 7th I rest, ie. eat like a slob. It works for me at 26. When I'm 46 it may not, and I may have to be more aggressive with caloric restrictions, but if I have to I will.

Arrrr!
But we can all display our great will-power by avoiding it... ;)
I swear like a drunken naavy at the best of times :>
TheLemonSong Thu, August 5th, 2004, 03:20 PM I've always liked the "Abs are made in the kitchen not in the gym mantra." For similar reasons...its always easier to focus on excersize and going to the gym than it is on constantly eating right. But if you think about how hard you work in the gym, you can work equally hard in the kitchen and see great results from the combo! The more you give the more you get...the hardest I've worked in the kitchen has been the last month, and take a look at my pix (link in signature)!!!

There should be.

Why? I think we're all mature enough to use the priviledge responsibly.

Of course we are mature enough. But language used in the threads tends to set a tone to the forum. The occasional swearing doesn't turn me off, but I would likely stop visiting this forum if there was swearing in every thread. (There, did I expose myself as a sensitive woman. )
Back to cracking it....
Once you've cracked it, it's all pretty simple. For me it's not hard work every day, it's healthier choices each day. I don't go to the gym because it's hard, I go because it's a healthy choice. And I simply can't imagine myself making less healthy choices, just as you can't imagine yourself not putting in the hard work.

Agree.
GraffitiDan Thu, August 5th, 2004, 11:18 PM The advice that I've been giving people is: "consistancy is key" : because just like you said, you can ruin a whole weeks worth of work in one day (which I've done plenty of times unfortunatly).
On the swearing issue: if it helps to set the tone of the comment, then thats good. Talking on the internet is so emotionless that when you really want to get your point or feelings accross, it can be a great tool. But like any other freedom/right/tool/power it can be abused. (which it clearly was not in this case)
ShadowPenguin Thu, August 5th, 2004, 11:22 PM Agree.
sure a modicum of tact should be called for, but hey when you get excited about a thought or idea the swears have been known to flow.
no harm done in my opinion.
PetriJR Fri, August 6th, 2004, 04:47 AM I've always liked the "Abs are made in the kitchen not in the gym mantra."
And why not also "Abs are made in the grocery store..."
My philosophy is such that the correct eating starts in the aisles of a grocery store. If you can't keep your diet there, how could you do it at your kitchen... ;)
