Also giving up smoking is a good idea! gfresh Mon, August 2nd, 2004, 02:53 AM ^ u just beat me when i posted it  but wouldnt cigerrettes restrict oxygen to your blood after a workout ajna_star Mon, August 2nd, 2004, 03:59 AM smoking also slows your metabolism..... which kinda defeats the purpose of working out. its generally accepted that people who exercise, do not smoke... they are oposite, one makes you healthy, the other kills you... gfresh Mon, August 2nd, 2004, 05:23 AM smoking also slows your metabolism..... which kinda defeats the purpose of working out. its generally accepted that people who exercise, do not smoke... they are oposite, one makes you healthy, the other kills you... actually, i think it might be bs, but i read somewhere one time that when smoking it increases metabolism i done a google search .. this is what it said.. ------------------------------- Nicotine suppresses the appetite and causes the liver to release glycogen, which raises the blood sugar level slightly. With nicotine out of your system, you may feel hungry more often. Smoking artificially elevates heart rate and increases metabolism. When you stop smoking, your body has to readjust to a lower metabolic rate. If you eat the same as you did when you were smoking, your body will end up using less and storing more (as fat) of the food. Smoking dulls the taste buds. Food begins to taste better to new nonsmokers; this can increase food intake. And then there's oral fixation -- some ex-smokers may want something to fill the void of cigarettes. ----------------- could be bs? anyone wanna elaborate Micket Mon, August 2nd, 2004, 06:18 AM Well smoking undoubtly ruins your lungs, which you use quite alot when exercising.. metron9 Mon, August 2nd, 2004, 08:48 AM What's the point of the question, everyone knows smoking is bad for you wether you work out or not so I don't think before or after a workout would matter at all. Maby 20 years ago people didn't know but anyone who is still in the dark about this just isn't paying attention. inurb Mon, August 2nd, 2004, 09:15 AM Smoking is bad and it can kill you. What else is there to know? slush_puppy Mon, August 2nd, 2004, 09:22 AM actually, i think it might be bs, but i read somewhere one time that when smoking it increases metabolism.Smoke your way to a better body, what a concept! I may just replace the cupholder with an ashtray and try lighting up right on the elliptical tomorrow morning. PingSpike Mon, August 2nd, 2004, 09:54 AM While I'm no advocate of smoking (although I did smoke for awhile in the past) I believe nicitine is a stimulant and maybe an appetite suppressant? Smokers are often very thin people...but that doesn't mean its a good idea to take it up so you can lose weight! Strapped Mon, August 2nd, 2004, 01:22 PM It has an indirect positive effect on your metabolism as it keeps your leptin levels high.. But I'd rather keep those levels high by eating right and working out correctly. It was a hard habit for me to kick, but it's done and over for some time and I won't ever look back. ErikTheRed Mon, August 2nd, 2004, 01:35 PM When you smoke it either increases or decreases your vitamin b-6 (which either suppresses appetite) I smoke and am in my final stage of quitting but I have to admit. It has made the cutting easier in times of need. I should be smokme free by the end of August. WISH ME LUCK AMR Mon, August 2nd, 2004, 01:38 PM can anyone tell me any facts they know about smoking cigarettess before or after working out? thanks Fact: you need air to live. Fact: Oxygen travels to all parts of your body via your blood. Fact: Oxygen is absorbed into your blood in your lungs. Fact: Your heart then pumps the Oxygen rich blood to all parts of your body. Fact: When you smoke, your lungs are filled with smoke and air. Fact: less oxygen is absorbed into your blood because it is also absorbing the smoke. Fact: Your heart has to work harder to distribute the same amount of air. Fact: Smoking CAUSES Lung Cancer TriXr4kiDDz Mon, August 2nd, 2004, 02:26 PM thanks everyone yall encouraged me to try to quit i am gonna start to cut down :D bignosemonkeydog Mon, August 2nd, 2004, 02:33 PM www.whyquit.com Smoke your cig and read.
