After lurking a while (not that the forum's been up THAT long!), I've finally decided to post.

I had found John's site late last year while (with moderate success) dropping from a top weight of 248lbs. With diet alone, I was able to get this down to 230lbs after about 10 months. During the Christmas holidays, I had done a bunch of homework and made a lot of changes in preparation for beginning a transformation program.

Since my background is eerily similar to John's, I adopted a similar routine and put it all in motion on January 11th, 2004. So almost a month later, I'm at 218lbs (I'm 6'1) and my perceived body fat has dropped from about 30% to about 24%. My long term goal is my old amateur kickboxing LEAN weight of 185lbs. My short term is get to 175lbs July 30th, 2004.

I adapted to my change quickly and successfuly, primarily due to the fact that I did a lot of PLANNING beforehand. I've changed my eating habits completely, and my exercise equipment has been upgraded and I'm at it every night after we get out kids to sleep (we have 3 kids with another one on the way February 23rd!). My only supplements are a good multi vitamin and whey protein at this point, since I need to round out my planned 40/40/20 Pro/Carb/Fat diet at around 2100 calories.

My wife plans to go on a transformation program soon after our 4th baby is born. She's not a naturally big woman (normally 125lbs), but will need some help after the baby.

I figured now is the best time to get into this lifestyle, since I'm 35 years old and I wanna see my grandkids! It's also helped me with my energy at work (despite the fact that I'm a lazy goverment computer geek), and my music (I'm a part time working musician).

Thanks so much to John and everyone for your guidance, stories, resources and support.

I don't plan to post too much, but I will keep you all updated.

Oh, and John? I expect to probably see you put out a book by the end of 2005 and see you on a talk show.

That's all from north of the border :)

Ah, a fellow Canadian :)

It sounds like you got everything ready to go and that you really prepared.... Don't see that a lot in people starting off really.

You should post your pics in the picture gallery and maybe get a fitness journal? Those would be pretty good ways to keep track.

Anyhow, good luck with both your fitness goals and the upcoming baby.

Thanks, TK. I wonder if John thought his accomplishments would hit us up here in the Great White North, eh?

I still have a lot of things to do in terms of educating myself. Right now, motivation isn't a factor for me so much as intensity. I feel like I need to step up my weight workouts, as well as cardio intensity.

I already keep a journal (Excel spreadsheet based on John's format), though I don't have many pics (other than my band's website at http://www.leavintrain.2ya.com). I gotta get a digital cam and post pics. While I don't have any point in posting pics right now, I imagine by this spring I'll have dug up old pics and take some new ones and post them accordingly. Perhaps I'll put up a reference website with my stats, pics and journal activity.

Whereabouts in Canada you in? I'd like to see that Cup on our side of the border this year, but I don't know if our own Sens can pull it off!

Welcome aboard!

I have exactly the same life situation as you states above, only one kid though, but a bunch of jelly all over the body and also an iron will to change this for the same reason as you: What I eat today will give me the heartache at 50...

I have some problum, though we live in a rather big flat (4 bedrooms, one big livingroom etc) I disturb our 15 month son when I start to brieth during weight lifting, not to mention the noice from the barbell.

It's certainly not easy, perhaps even impossible, to maximize my efforts at the same time as I'm trying to be quiet.....

Keep up your work Ken, and don't forget to take atleast one before-shot. Will help you remember how it was in the bad days!

Cheers,
Skipper

Hi Ken,

It sounds like you are well on your way to the "new" you, and have the desire and the knowledge to make it happen. I hope you (and your wife) will find these forums to be informative and inspirational as you progress. I'm looking forward to checking out your progress over the next few months.

Honestly I'm not all that surprised by the large number of Canadian visitors to my site, but my site's popularity in Europe, particularly with the Norwegians and Swedes, is most unexpected (and appreciated!) I honestly believe that I'm more well known in some of the Scandinavian countries than I am here in North America!

Anyway, welcome to the forums and good luck to you and your wife!

I can tell that I got soo inspired and started my transformation phase the day after I saw your blog. Now three of my collegues are following me.

I think you've started a movement here!

Good Job!
