I don't remember who said it, but someone on the forum once made the statement:

"Losing weight is easy."

Now, any time I feel tempted, all I have to do is remember that. And oh how it rings true!

I like this:

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world.

"There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others." - Nelson Mandela

-- Michael Jordan one of the NBA's greatest players

"A small trouble is like a pebble. Hold it too close to your eye and it fills the whole world and puts everything out of focus. Hold it at a proper distance and it can be examined and properly classified. Throw it at your feet and it can be seen in its true setting, just one more tiny bump on the pathway of life.

I love motivational quotes...
I don't know if it's exactly motivational (it works for me) but I like:

Luck is the residue of experience.

For some reason that really resonates with my version of reality. The only time somebody can get really lucky with anything, is when they're experienced at it. Michael Jordan couldn't make a lot of those amazingly lucky shots if he'd never practiced...

Dictionary is the only place that success comes before work. Hard work is the price we must pay for success. I think you can accomplish anything if you're willing to pay the price.

It's not whether you get knocked down, it's whether you get up.

Show me a good loser, and I'll show you a loser.

The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of will.

The greatest accomplishment is not in never falling, but in rising again after you fall.

We would accomplish many more things if we did not think of them as impossible.

Winning is not a sometime thing; it's an all time thing. You don't win once in a while, you don't do things right once in a while, you do them right all the time. Winning is habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.

I was dithering over whether to apply to grad school and I said something like "I don't wanna be doing Job X for $12/hr when I'm 40" to a friend, and she came back with "you'll be 40 anyway, so shut up and go". well, I'm almost 42 now, and I went to grad school, and I'm not making $12/hr anymore. it of course took more than her quip to get me going, but sometimes the most obvious facts are sitting there staring at you and you'll still miss 'em.

im not quite sure who said this but it goes something like this:

"there is no honor in being better than the other man, the honor is found in being better than your former self"

that inspires me in two ways, 1. to not care about what the next person over thinks and 2. in motivating me to better myself everyday to become better than who i was yesterday.

"The credit belongs to those who are actually in the arena, who strive valiantly; who know the great enthusiasms, the great devotions, and spend themselves in a worthy cause; who at the best, know the triumph of high achievement; and who, at the worst, if they fail, fail while daring greatly, so that their place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat."
