View Full Version : Fat % goals
Andrew M Wed, February 4th, 2004, 09:33 AM Hi all,
I've a long way to go until I reach my weight loss/fitness goal(s). Currently I'm 195cm, 115.6kg. My aims are 95kg minimum, with a bodyfat % in single figures, which would be the first time I would be satisfied with myself physically.
Since January 1st, I've dropped from 121.9kg, and my weights have all increased in the gym, so I am happy to not be calculating my fat %, as I am confident that I am at least maintaining my lean mass.
My question is this:
What ultimate bodyfat percentage is everyone* aiming towards?
* I'm a bloke, so this question is aimed at other blokes. The rules are different for ladies for many important health reasons.
I'm not sure where I would like mine to end up to be honest, only that I don't want my hard earned muscle to be hidden.
I'll set up a poll, but replies would be great if possible please.
Andrew.
Supervivet Wed, February 4th, 2004, 09:45 AM I'd say anywhere between 8-11% would be fine for me...at least to begin with. When I reach 83 kilos and thus complete the first stage of my bodytransformation I was planning to do a proper bodypercentage screening and then take it from there.
The ultimate in cool would be to keep the bodyfat % at around 8 or below during summer, and then bulk the rest of the year.
WierdBeard Wed, February 4th, 2004, 09:55 AM I set progressive goals for myself, so my first goal is to get to 180lbs with minimum lean muscle loss. After that, I'll probably set my goal to be 11% to 13% BF and judge my physique from there and then decide what my new goal will be. And of course after cutting, the bulking! :db:
CattleProd Wed, February 4th, 2004, 01:53 PM I want to cut down to 8% (hopefully by Easter!) then start bulking.

SCHTEEVIE Wed, February 4th, 2004, 02:14 PM are ladies not allowed to vote? :p
skelk Wed, February 4th, 2004, 02:22 PM Womens body fat percentage should be much higher than men's body fat, so if they were to vote the results would be totally meaningless... luckily this is not a case of being sexist!
Andrew M Wed, February 4th, 2004, 03:08 PM SCHTEEVIE, bodyfat percentages should be very different depending whether you're male or female. There isn't really an unhealthy level below which a man should not drop (I remember being told that Sylvester Stallone was around 2% during filming of one of the early Rambo films), but below a certain level (12-14% ish), too low a bodyfat starts to screw with a woman's cycle. I'm sure you've heard of anorexics who have fertility problems, even after they regain a healthy weight.
We are apples and pears on this one, not really appropriate to compare.
Andrew.
RM. Andersson Wed, February 4th, 2004, 08:35 PM My goal is 8-10% @ 85-90Kg. I´m 181 cm tall and my weight is 96-97Kg atm with 19-20% bodyfat. Also I´m 38 years old so I´m not very young anymore. But this far I´m happy with my progress and hope to be finished and reach my goal before summer.
I´m training with weights at a gym 4 days every week. I did some bodybuilding in the 80:es and early 90:es. I still had some muscle under all that fat when I started. :)
I use one of my old programs that gave me good progress when I was training more than 10 years ago. I use a 4 week cycle. Week1 plenty of reps and rather light weights. Week2 fewer reps and a bit heavier. And at week4 I´m doing max strenght with 3-4 reps as heavy as possible. And then repeat and a new week1.
Cardio is long distance at low speed at the moment. 12Km (8 miles I think) slow running/jogging. 4-5 days every week.
And I use a 40/40/20 diet at the moment and eat 1800-1900 calories.
Seems rigth for me since I get stronger and can lift heavier weights at the gym and loose fat at the same time.
Regards!
