View Full Version : I Hate Cardio!!!!
CL117 Thu, July 8th, 2004, 11:00 AM I have never been more motivated in my life, however, I just can't seem to get on track with my cardio. For a while I was doing great... getting up early, jumping on the treadmill, and doin a good 45 minutes. But for the past couple weeks, I just can't seem to gt out of bed in the morning. I guess I can blame my pretty busy schedule for it ...a usual day for me goes like this:
8am - 5pm work
5pm - 5:30pm drive home form work, eat dinner
ok..now here is where it gets hairy!!
between 530pm - 10pm, I can have anywhere from 1 to 3 softball games (M-F), usually lasting around 1hr and 15min each. So depending on the day and what the softball schedule is like, I have to fit in the games as well as the gym (3-4 nights a week). Thank god my gym closes at 11 so that gives me an extra hour to play with when it comes to fitting in the gym. Now, i know I get a little bit of a workout while playing softball, but its nothing close to a good cardio session.
So when all is said and done, im usually in bed by around 11-1130pm.
I guess i can't blame my body for not wanting to get in the morning, but i really would like to fit in some cardio. Does anybody with a crazy schedule have similar problems fitting everything in? And, how the hell can i get my ass outa bed in the morning? My alarm clock just doesnt cut it anymore!!!
PeteBDawg Thu, July 8th, 2004, 11:09 AM I have to do my cardio before work these days, which means I have to get up around 6 AM to really get done everything I want to do.
I found out the only possible way to do it is to go to sleep early. If I go to bed after 11:30, there is a next to zero chance that I'll be up in time for my workout, even if they're blowing airhorns next to my head. My clock radio, which used to get me up whenever I set it, just doesn't work anymore; I think I've actually started shutting it off in my sleep.
The catch, I think, is that since I started working out more, my body is demanding more sleep. And what my body wants, my body takes. Well, except for certain things.
Skoorb Thu, July 8th, 2004, 11:11 AM 45 minutes is a long time, and you tell yourself that every morning, which is why you're not finding it easy to get up. Try doing some in the evening when you don't have softball, or cut the duration back so that it's less agonizing to get up.
Also, remind yourself that on days you do cardio you feel so much better for the rest of the day (I"m sure you do). Also, if you're like me, whether you get out of bed after 7 hours or 8 hours you're still going to be dead tired if it's a "school day", so heck why not just get up at that 7 and do cardio?
slowpoke Thu, July 8th, 2004, 11:19 AM I've been trying to get up at 4:30am to do my cardio, but not getting into bed before 11:30 or midnight has killed me. I keep falling asleep at the most inopportune times (ie. driving, church, work). I believe rest is important, but I can't seem to find any.
Buchy Thu, July 8th, 2004, 11:26 AM Try HIIT if time is the issue.

SwoleCat Thu, July 8th, 2004, 08:36 PM It may be time to drop the softball games in favor of more sleep and the ability to do the cardio you desire. If you want the results bad enough, you'll make the switch.

nate1 Fri, July 9th, 2004, 01:30 AM get to sleep early, waking up early everyday sucks....I am hardcore but somedays I just sit and watch sportscenter. Most of the early blues are mental based, once you get going your body usually accepts it.

DeafNgari Fri, July 9th, 2004, 01:40 AM I've stopped closing my blinds at night so the sun is extra motivation for me to get up (assuming you aren't getting up early enough to beat the sun... in which case I'd be screwed).

I agree. Your schedule is busy because you play 4 hours of softball everyday :d_eek:
Can't you cut like, 1 hour of softball and play only 3 hours?
trainiac Fri, July 9th, 2004, 09:45 AM For people who hate cardio, I recommend these things:
1. Do the minimum cardio necessary for your goals.
2. Do shorter, more intense cardio sessions.
3. Distract yourself - read a magazine or watch TV while doing cardio.
4. Try changing the routine - If you're doing the treadmill every time, try doing an elliptical, bike, or stepper.
5. Get cardio in other ways - basketball, soccer, etc. Find something you like. People will tell those activities don't count because your heart rate goes up and down. It doesn't stay up in the zone. That's BS. It counts.

mac Fri, July 9th, 2004, 11:27 AM Sounds like you workout at home, but I workout at lunch everyday. I've got it down to where I can do everything I need to do that day during lunch. It also gives you a little extra energy half way through your day.

I would love to do that...but I dont get a lunch break.
As far as cutting out the softball...i could never. I play softball in the summer and flagfootball in the fall ( baseball and full contact football when i was younger). I get really into both..prob to the point of obsession. I have to be playing all the time...and even in the offseasons, I practice, workout, and buy new equipment for the upcomming season. Normal people wouldnt understand, only the people who are super competitive will.
spiceweasel Fri, July 9th, 2004, 01:08 PM Try running on trails. I find that this makes my cardio a lot more exciting... especially if its a new trail.
