http://home.comcast.net/~l33tn00b/FTP/bf.htmthere will always be a high margin of error for these types of methods of fat estimation.
brezman Wed, July 7th, 2004, 08:34 PM yea I gave up on mybodycomp when it rated me at 19%
and I'm 5'10" 158lbs with a 31.5" waist
U2rocks Wed, July 7th, 2004, 10:50 PM yes, i have found it to be totally off
Taxcheat Wed, July 7th, 2004, 11:13 PM What works seems to vary by individual. A trainer tested me with calipers and registered 10% BF when I started. A few weeks later, I measured myself at 9.75%. No way I was any less than 15-19% BF at the time.
mybodycomp is much more accurate for my body type. Maybe an expert can use calipers properly on me, but I don't know any experts!
Buchy Thu, July 8th, 2004, 05:43 AM I found mybodycomp inaccurate. I've had what I believe is a more accurate result from the maximuscle website and looking at Jeremey's photographs for different bodyfat percentages.
gamut Sun, July 11th, 2004, 05:29 PM I decided to use mybodycomp to gauge my progress (as it was one of the first links I followed from this forum). It left me a bit disheartened when, a week after I started running and doing calisthenics every day it told me;
I had lost 1.3kg (3 lbs) of LBM and gained 0.3kg (.75 LBS) fat as well as 0.64% body fat percentage. This in spite of loosing an inch across my waist, abdomen and hips, half an inch across my chest, hips and thighs, and a full kg (2 LBS) in weight. This thing tells me I've actually screwed my LBM and gained even more fat! >.<
The last week as been good, I've jogged from 3.5km to 7km every day, eaten more than I used to, and started off every day with a healthy breakfeast. I don't know what to think :/
DeafNgari Sun, July 11th, 2004, 06:00 PM The method bodycomp uses is really body type dependent. For me it is reading about 1% too low at this point if I am to trust calipers measurements from my godmother who does them regularly (she is a physical therapist and has been trained).
TheLemonSong Sun, July 11th, 2004, 06:07 PM Even calipers are very hard to use without a high margin of error. They are made for professionals to use, and often times finding the correct site for the calipers is much more difficult than it might seem. Don't worry about the numbers, just look in the mirror and see what you see...if you're 10, or 13, or 7, or 3 does it matter as much as if you're pleased with your appearance?

That is an awesome attitude and one I am striving towards. My mind is almost there I think. I am happy with what I see in the mirror but at the same time I think my subconcious has to constantly be in a pissing match with an imaginary foe so it wants to know numbers and is concerned with how much and how often type of questions.
gamut Sun, July 11th, 2004, 06:36 PM Just wondering; what time in the day do you guys do your body measurements (weight, various circumferences (waist, hips, arms, neck, etc))?
