I woke up with my nasal passes severely back up and a sore throat. I feel weak and tired and overall crappy. I decided to skip my cheat day this week, could that be the reason my body just crashed like this? Or did I just overdo it? Does the body react like this when overtrained? Cause if I had to pinpoint it, I would think that I might have overtrained, but wanted your advise. Have any of you guys gotten sick while cutting?

Take a week off then.

maybe you're just coming down with something. why so quick to blame your diet/exercise routine?

are you taking a good multivitamin? that alone could make a huge difference. you may also want to take a look at your diet and make sure that you're getting a decent variety of foods (therefore a variety of nutrients) your body needs to keep up your immune system.

feel better! :tu:

Just drink lost of water. It is a longshot but if you overtrained, your body's immune system could be weaker than normal making you more succeptable to viruses ect. Might just be allergies or something. Just take a day or two off, your body will thank you for it.

The truth is that people that excercise on a regular basis are more prone to colds due to the fact that their bodys are under constant strain. Take a break for a while you will feel much better for it.

hard to say, but I'd bet it's probably just a cold or something ;)

At least 5 times during the last 10 years I had attempted to restart my bodybuilding program. After 6 to 8 weeks I would get sick with flu like symtoms. The reason I think was I had sleep apnia and I was unable to recover from the workouts. Last fall I had a sleep test and found out I was never getting to the last stages of sleep because I was waking myself up hundreds of times a night.

I used a CPAP machine and after losing 40 lbs I don't need the machine anymore. I have not been sick for over a year. I started my diet last Feburary and lifting in March.

I think many people that are overweight have apnia problems because one of the results of lack of sleep is bodyfat accumulation because of a slowdown of the motabolism.

Sure could be just a cold, but I think that is something to check for.

If you think you snore badly, if you seem to have insomnia, set up a mic on your computer and record a nights sleep, see how many hours you snore and listen for stoppage of breathing and gasping for air.

I already know I wake up about 50 times a night, cause I actually wake up about that many times but thats normal for me.

As far as taking a week off, I have come this far and taking a week off would really be a hard thing for me to do. I took yesterday off cause I couldnt get up enoough energy to go to the gym. But today I'm back on course. I'm going this morning, but the nasal passages are still stuffed up and breathing is hard. It will probably clear up by mid-day, thats what it did yesterday.

Overtraining is an overused word and I did try to avoid it, but it seems like in the past that when I cut calories I always get sick, its a givin.

I've found it's easy to feel sick while working out, and 9 times out of 10, I'm really not that sick. Of course, I have seasonal allergies, so that throws everything off a little bit.

Still, for most people, there really isn't anything majorly wrong with exercising when you have a cold. I mean, I wouldn't do a triathalon or anything, but if you're doing fairly modest cardio and eating right (plenty of vitamin C!), you don't need to interrupt your workout regimen for a cold. I often find, if I do that, the depression from missing a series of workouts is a lot worse than the cold ever was.

But that's just me.

If you are having trouble breathing because of blocked sinuses and nasal passages, have you tried using a good decongestant? I have had sinus problems for most of my life, and a good decongestant does the trick for me when it gets really bad.

Man, I just got back from the gym and my nose is cleared up. lol. As soon as I got my heart pumping, it cleared up. I think it might be seasonal alergies.

No, waking up 50 times a night is not normal sleep. Not waking up at all till morning is what you want to shoot for. Other signs of sleep depravation are getting tired after lunch, nodding off when you read a book, falling asleep watching TV.

Well, the waking up part might have been cause of the fatburner I was taking so I am tappering down off it now and will be done with it by Sunday. I was taking an ECY stack, so thats a good possibility of my tossing and turning all night long.

Last night was horrible. I couldnt breathe my nose was stuffed up so much. I think I might actually have to go to the doctor. I get better toward mid day and then at night the horror comes back again.

First post :D But what you think it might be going away durring mid-day is actuly not true, your stuffed nose may still be there but your so into something else like working-out hanging with friends and having fun that you dont notice it, becuse your talking and or doing cardio in wich you breathe through your mouth for more air to keep going, but at night you mostly breathe through your nose naturaly, so thats when you notice it, thats the way it is for me, and me being who i am, you have a sinus infection most like, symptoms are
Nasal congestion and discharge
Sore throat and postnasal drip (fluid dripping down the back of your throat, especially at night or when lying down)
Headache -- pressure-like pain, pain behind the eyes, toothache, or facial tenderness
Cough, often worse at night
Fever (may be present)
Bad breath or loss of smell
Fatigue and generally not feeling well

you can refure to this sight, the first one that google came up with :D

The sleep thing is realy messed up, im way over weight, i work out eat controled, do cardio basicaly everyday and have 1 cheat night a week, and i sleep like a rock, i hit the bed and dont wake up till morning, unless i fall asleep on my stomach, but i wont get into that... :tu:
Good sleep habits help alot with energy and your immune system, and if your having problems sleeping while you have your sinus infection, which i think you have cuse ive had like 3 of them  go to the doctor he/she will give you some medication some serious drowsyness will accur and you might have to stop lifting till it clears, but it will help you sleep alot, that and if you havea tv in your room, leave it on but low sound, and it will help, dunno how but it will, thats what works for me everytime, but maybe im just weird like that. But if you have any two or three of those symptoms listed, go to your doctor, it will be there along time without antibiotics  . I hope this helps in any way :gl:

RossBenton, thank you very much. I have about all of those symptoms. This is like the 5th or 6th time this has happened to me in the past 7 years. Its almost a once a year occurance. In the past the doctor has prescribed me Zithromax, a very powerful antibiotic. I am reluctant to go to the doctor cause of the power of Zithromax and the negative effect it has on white blood cells. Zithromax comes in a Z pack and is the only thing that would work on me.

My congestion really does go away in the daytime and comes back strong in the night, so that really does hold true with me. My cold is getting better, but the sore throat is starting to act up and get a little worse. I dont feel like I have a fever anymore, but at times feel weak.

I am trying to just hope my body fights off the infection and cure it naturally. If I am not 100% by Friday, I am going to the doctor and will have to give in to the allmighty antibiotics.

Skipping your cheat day is not a bad thing. It will not cause you to get sick. You have a viral or bacterial infection. Simple as that.. :P

It seems like everytime I start a training program I always end up getting sick and it totally throws everything off for me. I started lifting, doing cardio, and eating correctly on June 21st. Yesterday I woke up and felt like crap. I progessively got worst during the day and today I woke up feeling even worse. Whats the deal? What do I need to do in the future to stop this from happening? Certain supplements I should take? Tomorrow I am going to get on the treadmill and try to do my normal routine. Do you think the sickness is because of my training or did I just catch something from somebody?

MAB, I know what you mean. I have the same problem as you, and so do many others. Maybe we arent getting the right vitimins. I take the GNC brand, mega men. I thought that was enough, but apparently its not doing the job.
