View Full Version : Rockman's Pics
Rockman February 3rd, 2004, 12:13 AM Well, I started Jan. 13 and have been taking weekly pics every Monday. I've decided to post my weekly pics in this "top" post.

Tiger King February 3rd, 2004, 01:18 AM Great improvement! In another 3 months you should look really, really, different, given the pace you're changing now
Teg4e February 3rd, 2004, 03:17 AM Great progress so far! Are you sure you've only lost 5 lbs.? It honestly looks like you've dropped 15-20 lbs. of fat from the first pic.
MYBAD? February 3rd, 2004, 06:15 AM Nice work in such a small time period! The gym membership would be great if you continue at this pace because you will soon become limited with the setup you have at home.
:gl:
John Stone February 3rd, 2004, 12:37 PM In just a few weeks you have started to change and it really shows -- great job. I agree with Teg4e, it looks like you've lost more than 5 pounds. Your belly in particular is quite a bit smaller. Keep up the hard work and keep us posted!
:gl:
Sole February 3rd, 2004, 02:34 PM Good Work! Keep it up!
At 6'3", and with such a wide frame, you are going to be a MONSTER after a couple months of lifting!
Keep us updated.
xray February 3rd, 2004, 02:50 PM Great change!! You've done very good, and I can't believe it's only 5 pounds. You must need a different size in clothes in this short time! I admire your braveness together with all the others putting up your pictures. I'm way too shy :o but it's actually butt kicking to see the change in all you girls and guys. So thanks for you braveness
Rockman February 3rd, 2004, 06:24 PM hey everybody, thanks for the encouraging words. Well, the scale says 5 lbs difference. Not that its correct but I do think it is consitent. I actually think it may be 10 lbs off so I should weigh 266 lbs. Oh well, at least I'm seeing some results. As for my belly shrinkage, I would say most of that is from ab work. Considering I haven't done a single crunch in the past 5 years and then doing 500/week has a tendancy to pull everything in.
I've decided to stop by Golds Gym on the way home and inquire about a membership. I saw a sign out front which said $19/month*. Notice the asterisk! Probably reserved for enrollment/iniation fees, first & last month. I won't pay those!
Nate February 3rd, 2004, 09:15 PM Great job, man. That's excellent progress for such a short period of time.
Keep it up!
-Nate
Rockman February 5th, 2004, 01:36 AM I finally went to inquire about a Golds membership. I use to belong there 20 years ago but, my, how it has changed. I went in and was told to sign in and wait for the sales consultant. The old days sure didn't have slimey sales consultants! Back then there was some huge roided out dude behind the counter who sold roids and other ilicit drugs. This guy was the typical swarmy sales rep. I pretty much made up my mind after one minute speaking with him. I asked for a flat price. He wouldn't say one. I asked to make monthly cash payments. He says, "Only automatic deductions from my account". When I said "no", the price kept dropping but I couldn't get him to agree to the monthly cash payment. Finally, as I walked out the door he came out and said he'll sell me a packet of coupons or something to purchase up front but the membership cost would be more. He kept haggling, trying to milk anything he could out of me. I told him I was thinking of buying my own rack and bench instead which would be cheaper. Last thing he said is, "you won't use it with out the atmosphere of Golds".
Looks like the gym membership is out and the quest for my own personal gym begins. Now I have to figure out where the hell I'm gonna put it! The garage is not an option. All rooms are out. Only place I can think of is the side yard on the concrete patio. Does anyone think this can work? I guess I could throw a tarp over it to protect it from moisture and the rainy season should be ending soon enough here. In my teen years I used to lift outside and get a great tan at the same time.
daveo February 5th, 2004, 10:36 AM I finally went to inquire about a Golds membership... Looks like the gym membership is out ... Surely there's more than the single Golds Gym? There's not a 24hr Fitness or anything similar?
Lindset February 9th, 2004, 04:19 PM Great improvements there, Rockman! Keep up the excellent work, man :)
Rockman February 16th, 2004, 08:03 PM Updated this weeks pics. I've decided post them in the top message so viewers don't need to scroll down through the posts and to save bandwith at my hosting site.
It took me 34 days to do it but I've finally dropped 10 lbs. I like the way my spare tire is shrinking from the back view. Additionally, I finally have my own home gym, 1/2 rack, bench, lat tower. I only have one lifting session under my belt but I expect some great improvements in the following weeks/months.
MYBAD? February 17th, 2004, 05:13 AM wow. I've just revisited this thread and you're making amazing progress. Your whole bodyshape is chaging. Pity about Golds rep being such an idiot - perhaps you should try some other gyms before you let one person put you off? Good luck! ;)
Danielle February 17th, 2004, 07:28 AM Hi Rockman,
You have made AWESOME progress! You should be proud of yourself! Great job! :tucool:

;)
Rockman February 23rd, 2004, 09:54 PM Updated my weekly pics in the first post above. I only lost 1 lb this week but my measurements lead me to believe I'm losing fat. I've lost girth in areas but added girth to forearms. I'm kind of disappointed in my cardio. Been doing HIIT 3x week but I'm not seeing the results I typically get when going slow and longer. This week I plan to go slow and long 2x and HIIT 1x mid-week and shake things up a bit. It's still rainy this time of year but I've managed to get my runs in between downpours. That's one up-side to HIIT. Man, I can't wait for spring! The mountain grasses are greening up nice now and trees are flowering but each day has some rain.
fluke February 24th, 2004, 01:17 AM Nice improvement, Rockman. Your back has a most impressive V shape.
I see you're a neighbor. That Bay Area Hiking site might be a very good resource for me. Ever been to Alum Rock Park in San Jose? Not the biggest place, but its beautiful in the spring. I have been doing some of my cardio there.
escher February 24th, 2004, 05:56 AM I look at your picts, and it looks like the weight is just melting off of you! Then I look at how much you lost, and it doesnt seem right!! Only 11 pounds?? Those few pounds have made a great difference in the shape of your body. You obviously must be gaining a lot of muscle! Such a big change in 41 days... It'll be amazing to see your progress by the summer at this rate!!
Rockman February 25th, 2004, 04:04 PM Hidey Ho Neighbor! Well, my site isn't exactly great for information and I hardly ever update anymore. A good message board for hikes is Bay Area Hiking @ yahoo groups. I was co-moderator on that one a while back but the site has grown too much and the groups are getting 10-20 people/hike. That's way too many for my enjoyment. There are a few of us from when the board first began that still get together and go hikes occassionally but I prefer backpacking now.
A great informational site for dayhikes is BAHiker.com. This chick has been everywhere.
As for Alum Rock, yeah, I've heard of it. Never been there though. I'll probably head to Coe State for a couple days hiking this spring.

LiveWire February 25th, 2004, 04:07 PM Great job!!! I can't believe it's only 5 pounds gone. You are looking great! :tucool:
Rockman February 25th, 2004, 04:10 PM Escher, I kind of flumoxed by the weight loss also. It looks like I lost more but it's not melting off. In 1999, I lost 70 lbs in 3 months by running two hours everyday and watching my diet so I'm kind of confused this time around. This time I am incorporating lifting and 1 less hour of cardio. Additionally, I've been doing HIIT but I'm going to switch that up. I don't think it's working for me. It may be a mind thing but I prefer that one hour long run instead of the quick 30 min one.
I look forward to see what my results this summer will be also!

Rockman February 25th, 2004, 04:14 PM Thanks Livewire. Actually its 11 lbs now. You probably got the 5 lbs from a after post. The photos in the top thread are updated each monday to reflect my current status.
Great job!!! I can't believe it's only 5 pounds gone. You are looking great! :tucool:
Rockman March 1st, 2004, 06:13 PM I have updated my weekly pics in the first post on this thread above. This week I dropped 2 lbs. I only got in two cardio workouts this week as I came down with the flu this past Saturday and, of which, is only getting worse. The whole family had it two weeks ago and now is my time to suffer. I hope to get in some kind of workout this week but with my currently illness and the fact California has an election tomorrow (I work for my county elections department also) I don't know if I'll be able get anything in til later in the week. Wish me luck! ;)
BeefKakBuk March 1st, 2004, 06:50 PM Anyone want to wager on the fact that he is going to blur his face less and less as his fitness improves? You an already tell that it is going to happen.
Rockman March 2nd, 2004, 05:55 PM Although, this week's less blurring in noticable, I didn't set out to do that. You have given me an idea though and might incorporate it in following updates. Hell, when I'm lean enough you can say bye-bye to the briefs also! :D

Mike Youngs March 2nd, 2004, 08:06 PM Set your gym up outside
Man you tick me off
as I sit here in snowy Canada :p
J/K :D
You are making great progress so far :tu:
can't wait to check your thread out each Monday :claplow:
Skipernicus March 5th, 2004, 09:03 AM I believe you when you say you haven't lost a lot of poundage.
You're certainly much harder than before, and muscle is dense, so you weight is probably similar but your muscle mass is much higher. (Be careful when you go swimming. If you have packed on the muscle, you won't float so easily...)
You look great. I wonder how you'll look in a year - keep going! You got amazing potential there, and a fine start.
Rockman March 6th, 2004, 08:04 PM Thanks skip! That's just the motivation I like to hear! :tu:

J-Man March 6th, 2004, 08:35 PM great job man!!! keep up the good work
Rockman March 8th, 2004, 11:24 PM Just another weekly picture update. I've been battling bronchitis all week and never did get in any kind of workout. Neither cardio nor weights. Nothing has really changed with the exception of dropping 1 pound. Hell, I'll take that! I can't wait til I can breath deeply again without coughing up a lung!
Paul Jancha March 8th, 2004, 11:34 PM great job with the wieght loss, you have very impressive lat width as well. keep up the good work
Rockman March 15th, 2004, 10:48 PM Well, heck. I made it 2 whole months without quitting! :D Man, I feel pretty good and I'm ready to tackle more fat. My beginning pics and current pics are in the very first post of this thread for comparison.
I was pretty surprised to see a 4 lb gain this week. Afterall, I'm trying to drop weight. No matter. After doing the measurements and calculations I was pleasantly surprised. I have actually dropped 1.3% bf, 2lbs of fat, and gained 6 lbs mass in the last week. There must be some error in there as 6 lean mass is quite a bit for one week. My measurements all went up while my waist and hip measurements went down and in my case, that's a very good thing!
Changes this week are as follows:
Weight: +4 lbs; Chest: +0.5"; Waist: -0.83"; Hips: -0.88"; Thigh: +0.82"
Calf: +0.04"; Bi: +0.08"; Neck: +0.11"
There have been a few things I've changed about my diet and routine this past week. In order of least importance which I think had a reason for this weeks changes are...
6-Upped Vitamin C intake
5-Upped Calcium intake
4-Quit my 40 oz coffee/day habit. Lowering my cortsol levels.
3-Upped caloric intake 100 calories
2-Restructured my macronutrients. Was 45p/35c/20f. Now 40p/40c/20f.
1-Stopped Max-OT. Switched to HST
Switching training programs was up in the air. I liked the quick workouts of Max-OT but felt I wasn't getting a "great" workout. Sure, I was getting DOMS 2 days later but it didn't feel right for me. The switch to HST was gruelling. Back to the burn, baby! As mentioned by Karatekicker in another post, my endurance was shot after Max-OT. I am thinking of doing a combo/split of the two programs. 1 month on HST, 1 month on Max-OT. This is just something I'm thinking about.
On Day 1 of this I was carrying around 70 lbs of fat and 191 lbs of lbm. Now, I'm at 55 lbs of fat and 196 lbs of lbm. I'd be very happy if I dropped another 15 lbs of fat and gain more lbm over the next couple months.
Well, that's it for this week. I look forward to the next 2 months to see what my future holds.
ps. John, thanks for getting my fat arse in gear! :tucool:
FionaMaeve March 15th, 2004, 11:22 PM Wow! Amazing progress! :)
ABguy March 16th, 2004, 12:13 AM 2 MONTH UPDATE
Well, I started Jan. 13 and have been taking weekly pics every Monday. I've decided to post my weekly pics in this "top" post so you, the viewer, don't have to scroll down.

Very impressive. Those lats are going to be awesome. Keep up the good work !!
Rockman March 22nd, 2004, 11:44 PM Just another weekly pic update. New pics can be seen in the very first post of this thread. Nothing much has changed from last weeks post w/ the exception of 6 lbs lost. I think last weeks weigh-in was off as 6 lbs is alot and I haven't really changed my routine and my body dimensions actually increased a tad. Well, til next week. Adios.
Rockman March 30th, 2004, 06:37 PM Just another weekly pic update. New pics can be seen in the very first post of this thread.
Well, this week I dropped 3 lbs, the most in a week since I've started. I figure it is because I started doing morning cardio now the weather and temp is better. A couple things I've noticed which I feel good about are the appearance of veins in my inner middle thighs down to my ankles and bicep vein running up and over the shoulder when lifting. It's been almost 17 years since I've seen my little veiny friends. Another postive thing... NO MORE ASS DIMPLES!!! You know, when you clench your cheeks. Well, they're gone.
I guess I'm feeling pretty groovy right now so I decided not to blur my face this week. Next week, who knows?
John, thanks for getting rid of my ass dimples! :D
karatetricker March 30th, 2004, 06:44 PM Wow, you really have made some great progress! Very impressive! :tu:
Obscura March 30th, 2004, 06:47 PM Dude... Your back looks massive! Most Impressive!
analogue April 2nd, 2004, 01:57 AM I would kill to have 17.5" biceps. Wow!
ClimbOn April 2nd, 2004, 03:02 AM Great Job!!!!!
Do not stop, after all the fat melts off and you get ripped you are going to look huge. Your back is going to look massive.
Rockman April 19th, 2004, 10:43 PM Hey folks! Just popping in to update my pics at the almost 100 day mark! New pics can be seen in the top post of this thread. I held off from updating the last couple weeks because I wasn't seeing any change. Well, I finally am again plus I gave myself a new hair cut. Always wanted to see what was under all that hair. If you ask me, I look just like Jeremy Likeness now. :D
The last three weeks I switched over to Pendulum training to change things up. It's pretty neat as the routine is always different. My diet has had a couple bumps in it. Had a couple cups of ice cream over the last three weeks and about 20 beers with friends but that's about it for cheating for this first 100 days.
Oh yeah, had to make another hole in my belt! Whoohoo!
...and now for a close-up of my experiment with beer and shears.

badgolfer April 19th, 2004, 10:46 PM Really lost that gut. The haircut looks good too. I did the same thing a few months back. :tu:
chicanerous April 19th, 2004, 11:24 PM My entire body looked just like the top of your head a few months ago - swimming. Only the top of my head was the same shade though.
citrixmeta April 20th, 2004, 09:20 AM rockman, i saw your day1 and 97 pix,
damn man your looking great! such a huge diff!
keep it up
:tu: :tu: :tu:
RM. Andersson April 21st, 2004, 04:23 AM Gratz! Good progress! I dont think you need to focus that much on weightloss. From what I can see it looks like you are gaining some LBM and loosing fat at the same time...And the progress you can see in the mirror is more important than anything.
Regards! :gl:
Rockman May 11th, 2004, 12:16 AM Hola Amigos! Just checking in again to update pics which can be seen in the VERY first post of this thread. Well, I've been lifting/running/eating right for almost 4 months now. I've dropped 35 lbs and only 1 lb of lean mass. I happy with it.
On the workout front... I've been doing pendulum training for the past 6 weeks or so and switched back to MAX-OT today. I must say, the break from max did me good. I put up probably 25-30 lbs more on lifts than I what I was at pre-pendulum training.
For cardio, I'm still doing long runs (1 hr) twice weekly and HIIT for 30 minutes mid week. I'm actually thinking of incorporating plyometric training to get some explosiveness and quickness back.
Dieting.... well, I'm still eating on average of 2000 cals/day with a Saturday cheat day of 2500-3000 cals. I know some here will say I'm eating to little for my size but for years I subsisted on 1600 or less. It's just the way my body works. It's working for me as it is. OOOooo, I also started taking creatine just for shits and giggles. I like it. Don't know if it's working or giving me a psychological edge but my workouts have been awesome the last few days (I'm still in the loading phase).
Other good news... bought a pair of new pants this weekend and wore them today. 38 in waist with 1/2" to spare. This is a big achievement for me. I haven't fit into a 38 since I was 18 some 20 years ago. I kept inching up and up and up til I was 44" in January of this year.
I'm gonna keep going as I still haven't reached my ultimate goal of 220 by July. Regardless, once I reach that goal I'm sure I'll keep going as this seems to be my life-style now. The Bay to Breakers race is this Sunday and I'm considering running it. It's only 12 K and a very party like atmosphere. Heck, nude people run it. Afterall, it is San Franciso! I'm taking a cruise to Alaska in June so I hope don't sabotage my eating but I'm sure there will be plenty of seafood on board, plus gym. If I get off track I'll make it up by spending 2 weeks backpacking in the Sierra Nevada come early July.
Take Care Y'all!
Craig May 11th, 2004, 06:24 AM Just spotted this thread for the first time and I'm amazed by the difference, well done Rockman.
You must have done a lot of work on your back because it's HUGE, I'm suprised you can even get through doors ;) .
Keep up the great work.
Rockman December 27th, 2004, 10:07 PM Hola amigos! Well, I'm back after a much too long break from staying in shape. Last Jan I was up 277 and by July I was 225. I felt awesome and stayed at about that weight till Oct. Then daylight savings came along. My workouts came to screeching halt. I knew I was putting the weight back on as the pants started to feel snug again but dang, I'm back up to 250 lbs. Damn the holidays!
Anyway, I'm back and I'm gonna drop the fat ASAP. I'll probably have to start progress pictures again to get motivated. See you all on the boards.
