Hi!

I was wondering if anyone would have a good diet plan for me.

I'm 5'5 and I weight around 115 lbs. I don't really want to lose weight because I know I don't need to. But I do have too much fat in my waist that I want to get rid of. I'm also a lakto-ovo vegetarian, so I don't eat any meat or fish.

Anyone know a good diet plan that would suit me? I've already started to go longer walks with my dog each day for 45-60 minutes and working out 3 times a week.

It's really hard to lose fat without losing weight. Impossible, maybe even, I'm not sure.

I didn't really want to lose weight when I started. (I'm 5'5" as well, and was about 125 when I joined JSF forums in February). However, I realized I'd never see my abs unless I lost fat, and losing the weight was the only way for me to do that.

That said, I can't imagine how anyone 5'5" and 115 pounds could lose weight and still be healthy, so I'm stumped.

Are you lifting weights? Clearly, what you want to do is replace your fat with muscle.

Being a vegetarian, adequate protein may be difficult to obtain. Especially being a lacto/ovo vegetarian, I don't know what protein supplements if any are appropriate.

Swolecat would say that your macronutrients make up all the difference. Ideally, I suppose you should try to get 20% of your calories from fat, 40% from carbohydrates, and 40% from protein. Alternately, aim for 1 g of protein per pound of body weight. (I personally am happy with my 30/50/20 ratio, but I am slowly trying to get it closer to 20/40/40 as the mood suits me)

I've weighted 110lbs before and did just fine, but some people did tell me that I was too thin around the waist while others told me I looked great. Can I loose 5lbs and then gain weight by lifting?

I don't know much about protein supplements. I always thought what I got from eating eggs and yoghurt was enough. :d_redface

You can't gain weight by lifting. If you decided to cut (reduce calories)to lose the fat, you'd need to bulk (increase calories) to gain the muscle. I don't know of any women that have done that, but plenty of men here are using that strategy. Maybe they could explain why.

Now that I think of it a little more, you want to do what Trinity did in her first stage. She transformed her body while losing only a small amount of weight. Trinity's Transformation (http://forums.johnstonefitness.com/showthread.php?t=3324&highlight=Trinity)

If you input your foods into www.fitday.com it will tell you the calories and macronutrient breakdown.

Eggs and yogurt will NOT cut it. You need at least some tofu, TVP, beans, nuts, etc.

What's a lacto ovo vegetarian? Do you eat eggs? Cottage cheese is a great source of protein recommended by everyone here.

Thanks for explaining all of this to me. I'll visit those links. :d_smile:

A lacto-ovo vegetarian doesn't eat meat and fish, but do eat eggs and dairy (and fruits, vegetables..). Lacto comes from the word lact, which means milk in latin. Egg in latin is Ovum.
