What are everyone's thoughts on eating fruit while cutting? I know some people say it's a bad idea because of the fructose sugars. However, I want to know if they are really bad for you while cutting or if that is just people being overly cautious. I find it very easy to throw in an apple/pear/cherries/whatever in a bag with some other healthy carbs to equal a moderate calorie snack. I like having the fruit as a choice because of its nutrients rather than just using another form of carb for a snack.

Fruits are fine, just don't overdo it...its easy to sit down and eat a lot of fruit, and it really doesn't fill me up in the slightest. Esp. PWO I think high GI fruits are excellent. Is one apple or a peach or something going to mess your diet up? Probably not, but eating them between meals all the time might...like I said, just don't go overboard and you'll be straight.

Low calorie fruit are fine. It's ironic how many people will say fruit is bad because it has simple sugars. So what is the alternative? They suggest potatoes and brown rice. Newsflash ... the reason why people cling to the old-fashioned notion that all simple sugars are bad is because of the myth that all simple sugars caused a rapid rise in blood sugar. The truth is that we can now measure the impact of foods on blood sugar, and the so-called complex carbs of brown rice and baked potatoes actually cause more of a blood sugar rise than fruit!

Focus on combining protein, carbohydrates, and healthy fats, and you will not have those issues of rapid blood sugar rises. Fiber and fats help slow digestion, improve absorbtion of nutrients, etc. And fruit is LOADED with nutrients your body needs when cutting.

What types of fruit? I've really been going nuts on fruit recently, eating a TON even when i'm completely full. I just love it.

I've been eating mostly canteloupe, watermelon, strawberries and green grapes. Any of these bad late at night?

I've been wondering this too. I heard dates are good for PWO on a cutting diet, but what about in the mornings when you wake up (on non- cardio days) and during the day with protein packed meals?

I eat five pieces of fresh fruit each day. While fructose may be a simple carb, it isn't like fruuit is the same as eating a bunch of garbagy foods IMO.

I told myself when I started my cut that health and proper nutrition would supercede any specific transformation goals I may have. I won't die if I don't have shredded abs, but I might die earlier if I neglect to take advantage of all of the free-radical fighting fruit that nature has provided for me.

Jack is 89 years old and eats his 5 pieces of fruit every day. I would love to be as robust and fit as he is at 89!

Just my 2 cents. dobber

That's exactly how I feel!

I'm sort of cutting, I work out MAX OT and have lost about 3.5 lbs over the last 7 weeks so I"m not trying to lose weight really fast. I also eat about 5 fruits a day or aroud 1/4-1/3 my daily calories. I like taking two fruit with me to work because they are great in between meal snacks for my fifteen minute breaks I get every four hours. My day usually looks like

Get up
banana
work out
banana
breakfast (oatmeal, OJ, 2 eggs spread out over an hour as I shower and dress and everything)
work
apple
work
lunch (usually a sprouted grain tortilla with organic trader joes chunky PB and one of their amazing low sugar organic fruit preserves)
work
nectarine or peach
work
home
dinner (chicken, turkey burger, and big veggie meal (like about 1/2 lb of broccoli, 1/3 head of cauliflower and about five medium small carrots steamed, though I'll eat a chunk of that raw while I"m preparing it)
then I'll usually have another fruit later in the evening, like figs or grapes or a pear every now and then.

I highly recommend fruit as I feel great on this healthy diet, with hardly any snacky or prepared foods at all!

Just like with vegetables: not all are made equal. With veggies, you can't go overboard with peas, carrots, and corn. With fruit, keep stuff like bananas and watermellons in moderation. Eat several servings of fruit like apples, pears, plums, peaches, strawberries, and cherries a day.
