I just read a post in which it said pretzels are bad. We have some Snyder's pretzels at home, which seem to be all good carbs. There is a minimal amount of salt in them which was a big concern when I thought about pretzels. The first ingredient on the label is "whole wheat flour". There is also "less than 1g sugar" per serving.
So tell me, what's really wrong with these pretzels??? They seem perfectly fine, but I just saw another poster being told that pretzels were not a good choice. Might I also add that John usually ate pretzels every day and it didn't give him any problems.

i guess the snyders ones arent as bad as the regular ones, but they still arent that good
they are processed, and still have less nutrients than other carb sources, such as grains and vegies, they will also be of a higher-GI
not the worst choice, but definalty not the best!

If the first ingredient is whole wheat, awesome!!! That's a better pretzel than most. The majority of pretzels are simply refined, white flour. They provide calories, but no fiber, no nutrients, nothing but energy - and are so highly processed that they can send blood sugar through the roof. A lot are high in sodium.
A few in moderation probably won't hurt, although if you could get 100 calories from pretzels versus 100 calories from vegetables, guess which would be a better choice?
Crunchy foods are typically trigger foods: pretzels, chips, etc. Most people add these thinking "low fat, low calorie" and then graze on them throughout the day without really tracking them. The truth is, those calories can add up.
I like pretzels myself ... I just don't consider them healthy choices, I consider them something to treat myself to when I crave crunchy carbs (I'm a sucker for corn chips, too).

I agree with everyone else here. I'll also add (OK, maybe I'm a weirdo), that when I want a crunchy snack, I eat these things, that are probably healthier choices than pretzels:
Fiber One cereal, dry out of the box
All Bran cereal, same
TVP - Textured Vegetable Protein, dry
Be sure to drink a lot of water when you do this, and eat slowly. This stuff swells in the stomach and makes you full quick.

Pretzels aren't bad, just think of all the other crap sold right next to pretzels in the chip isle. As a neb. fan we have more in common than you think, we both hate FSU!
