View Full Version : Is it normal to get gas like this?
Vinnys025 Thu, July 1st, 2004, 06:06 PM Latley I have been getting gas like crazy, and also occasional runs. What causes gas? I know a lack of fiber can cause the runs, but i'm not lacking in fiber. I eat Brocolli ever day for fiber. I dont know if cutting gives you the runs and gas like this, but its becoming annoying.
Maybe some of you can tell me how to get rid of the gas and the ocasional runs?

There are numerous causes for gases. Some mild allergies can cause gas. Broccoli itself may cause gas and bloating in some people.
Often, it can be due to overconsumption of carbs and/or protein. I know on a high protein diet I was like a stink storm, which is one of the reasons I stopped. If I overeat carbs, same thing. The reason is that when you overeat, the food passes into your intestinal tract. There, "helper bacteria" or "intestinal fauna" may help to break down the foods further. The byproduct of this is gas. Not necessary a sign that things have gone sour (pardon the pun) but if it is chronic, there is definitely something wrong with your diet. I've heard people say "gas is a sure sign you're eating healthy" and I simply disagree - I always can relate it to a food that doesn't agree with me, or overconsumption of proteins or carbs (haven't had the issue with fats, though I'm sure its possible).

tensdanny Thu, July 1st, 2004, 07:20 PM glutamine can give some wicked gas if you take too much.
Vinnys025 Thu, July 1st, 2004, 07:42 PM Well, I have uped the carbs latley cause I was told I wasent consuming enough. I was taking in about 150-180 grams per day, I am now taking in between 220-250 per day. Mostly Fruits and veggies and some trace carbs in other protiens and healthy fats.
I did eat some low carb cookies and that is when I started farting like crazy. But I assumed that when I stopped it would go away. Its been like 3 days and I'm still farting....could it still be in my system??
Vinnys025 Thu, July 1st, 2004, 11:09 PM DAM IT. I just found out what the gas is from. I have these healthy choice fudge bars and they contain Sorbitol!!!!!!!!! I just threw the rest of them in the garbage. Never again

nate1 Mon, July 5th, 2004, 02:06 AM high fiber causes alot of gas, also intense cardio sometimes promotes this. I eat tons of fiber and used to have this problem. Just take beano before every meal or just in the mornings and at night, gas is fun though!
I think overall if your diet is pretty lean and clean then gas is a good sign that something is movin' down there.
