I went food shopping this morning and while I was wandering round the shop I came across some cans of tuna steak in olive oil, I know that most people on these forums say not to use tuna in sunflower oil etc, but I was just wondering, would this be a healthier option to buy rather than buying plain old tuna in water ?

Cheers !!

I always buy canned tuna packed in olive oil. It tastes a lot better, and the olive oil is healthy. Many of the tunas packed in other vegetable oils that are sold here in the U.S. also have water in them, which is detrimental to the consistency (in my opinion).

Thanks BamaDave, I'll pick some up and give it a try.

I read that often tuna in olive oil is lower fat than water-packed tuna, because they use fattier tuna for the water pack. Read your labels.

I'm annoyed because my tuna (European) has no nutrition information on the cans, so I have to just have faith that it's better for me than chicken.

I often eat a can of tuna with a tablespoon of olive oil, peanut oil, or coconut oil added. I've not heard that about sunflower oil... what's the problem with it?
