Sorry for the pics being a bit uneven in size but to get them to fit side by side that is what I needed to do. More info to be posted later.
CL117 June 21st, 2004, 10:58 AM Thanks for posting Fluogen!
Good luck, and lets lose some fat!
Fluogen June 21st, 2004, 11:12 AM Now for a bit about my goals with this. First and foremost is to lose the fat. I have a solid foundation of muscle that is being hidden by the fat. Particularly my gut and the wattle (which was hidden by a goatee until last week) need to go.
I've been lifting 5 days a week doing the Max-OT program. I try to get cardio in in the evenings a few times a week. This is usually the ellipitical machine but I also play racquetball once a week and I count mowing the lawn as a workout the way I do it.
My biggest weakness is diet. Of course this is also the most important thing for me to watch if I want to lose the fat. I'm hoping this competition provides the motivation that I can't seem to get anywhere else.
CL117 June 21st, 2004, 11:38 AM Goal:
I feel I have some decent muscle mass and just really need to shed the fat. I am using this competition to push myself to reach my goals. I would like to be in 210lbs range while retaining my current muscle by Labor day.
Training:
I workout 4 times a week, using Max OT style workouts. I lift weights at night and do low intenisty cardio in the morning (as many times a week as I can, usally 3-4).
Diet:
Up until about 2 weeks ago, I always "tried" to eat clean, but I never had a set plan. Now I have constructed a concrete plan, and have been following it for the past week. I feel that this competition will give me the motivation to stick with it.
Robert28 June 21st, 2004, 12:44 PM Good luck, guys! Wish I had read about your challenge earlier because I'm at 238 and I would've loved to have been in on it.
Fabian June 21st, 2004, 03:24 PM Wow, this match looks like the start of an epic battle...cant wait to see how it progresses, :gl: both of ya.
Jimbo June 21st, 2004, 03:39 PM From the looks of things, you both might end up with some really impressive biceps by the time this is done. :flex:
TheLemonSong June 21st, 2004, 03:44 PM Right on guys! This is going to be a GREAT one to watch!!
CL117 June 21st, 2004, 03:47 PM I hope my biceps grow..although I never seem to get good results in my bicep. Most of the size in my arm is actually from my tricep.
AMR June 21st, 2004, 04:48 PM RIGHT ON guys! This is going to be a good one. Both of you already have so much muscle. I'll be checking in on a regular basis for this one.
Good Luck! :db:
Fluogen June 21st, 2004, 05:15 PM I have decent biceps (and rather large tris) but there is so much fat the skin just goes straight from my shoulder to my elbow taking away any definition. All the more reason to lose weight. :)
Thanks for the interest already, everyone. This is definitely going to be fun.
CL117 June 21st, 2004, 05:25 PM Thanks for the interest already, everyone. This is definitely going to be fun.
I second that. Thanks everybody!
Nico June 21st, 2004, 08:03 PM This is a clash of giants!
CL117 June 22nd, 2004, 03:01 PM So...some evil person  brought in a box of Dunkin Doughnut Munchkins to my job today. These things are even worse than regular doughnuts bc they look so small and harmless and they are so easy to grab as you walk by without any1 seeing. I would rather see the big regular kind bc there is no way in hell that I would think about eating a whole dougnut. Anyway, after scoping these things about 10 times after they were set down at the only entrance/exit to my office, I reached for one. Just before my hand touched that sugary frosted coating, I rememberd this competition and snapped out of the hypnotic hold they had me in.
I hope nobody saw me throw them in the garbage either! :tu:
There is def. something about the thought of pics of your overweight body posted on a public message board that does wonders for your diet!!! :claplow: :claphigh: :claplow: :claphigh: :claplow:
Fluogen June 24th, 2004, 10:57 AM The workouts are going well but I still have no willpower when it comes to food. I am eating a lot better but I still have a lot of work to do. I think I will wind up down a couple by the end of the week but I really am making things harder on myself.
I was supposed to go to Baltimore this weekend but that fell through. That is both good and bad. Bad because I really need to get away, even for just a weekend. Good because I would have had way too much to eat and drink.
I'm taking tomorrow off anyway so I won't post again until some time this weekend probably. I'll still hit the gym in the morning and I hope to get a round of golf in in the afternoon.
CL117 June 24th, 2004, 12:03 PM I have decided to post a typical day of my diet. I know its rather boring but it changes from day to day. This is just what I happened to have yesterday. Please let me know what you think.
Meal 1:
1 cup oatmeal, 1 scoop ATW protein blend
Meal 2:
1 chciken breast, 1 cup brown rice, 1 cup mixed veggies
Meal 3:
2 cups lettuce, 1 chicken breast, 1 tbs oil & vinegar
Meal 4:
1 chicken breast, 1 cup brown rice, 1 cup veggies
Meal 5:
1 cod steak, 1 cup mixed veggies, 1 cup lettuce, 1tbs fat free italian
Meal 6:
1 cup cottage cheese, 1 tbs almond butter
the totals from fitday:
2298 cals, 255 prot, 192 carbs, 53 fat
works out to:
48%p / 30%c / 22%f
PLEASE CRITIQUE :tu:
Edit: i forget to add that I have a PWO shake (whey, dex, malto) in between meals 4 & 5 on workout days but I dont count that into my totals.
Fluogen June 28th, 2004, 09:06 AM Week 2 Stats:
Weight: 240 (-2 for the week)
BF%: 31.67 (down .33%)
Not too bad considering I didn't eat like I should have. I'll try harder this week and see what happens. This weekend could be tough. A 3 day weekend with my kids doesn't lend itself to eating well easily. Luckily they like to eat healthy foods too.

I think that diet is going to take you far. I'd say it's pretty damn good by any standard.
If all that lettuce is icerberg maybe it'd be better to switch it up for spinach (Which also tastes great with chicken/rice) just to add some more good stuff in there - though you do seem to be getting veggies elsewhere.
But definitely, that's a winner I'd say.
CL117 July 6th, 2004, 12:19 PM Just wanted to give an update...
On 7/3/04 I weighed in at about 228 (10 lbs down), but after the big 4th of July bash I had, I weighed myself today and I was at 234. I hope thats just water weight and whatever else I consumed this past weekend. Aside from a great party and seeing all my friends and family, I was notified of some bad news this weekend. Someone stole my credit card and charged $2000 worth of stuff. So that put a bit of a damper on the holiday. I hope to hit the gym hard today and workout some of the frustration
Fluogen July 6th, 2004, 04:07 PM Weekly update:
Weight: 239 (down 1 this week, 3 for the comp)
BF: 33.663% (unchanged for the week)
Down one pound on a not so good week. This weekend was tough on the diet but I kept moving which saved me. Any downward movement of the number is okay with me though.
I was able to increase the weight on just about everything I did last week in the gym. That made me feel good. I can't believe how much strength I've gained in the last couple of months, it keeps me excited about going to work out.
I've also been running (jogging/walking, really) two nights a week. It feels good to run even if I can't make it far before having to stop and walk. I can do almost 2 miles jogging during the 5 mile loop my friend and I do. Much more than I thought I would be able to accomplish.
CL117, I wouldn't worry about the weight. I'm sure it will drop off as quickly as it came. The credit card things sucks though. Good luck straightening it all out.

It seems like a great diet, but I have a hard time believing that you'll continue to enjoy your meals after 2 months. Is it enough variety for you? I hope you really like chicken breasts.
The main reason people fail to lose fat over an extended period of time, or the reason they put back weight after losing it, is that they chose a diet that was so strict or lacking in calories that they couldn't possibly stick to it, and once they cheat, they really cheat.
Do you have cheat days?

I have my mind set on losing the weight. I have not gone off thus far, and to be honest..i actually like the meals I have been eating. I do have 1 cheat meal a week.

then you've got the right diet. If you stick to that for the next 9 weeks you should show great progress without a doubt. good luck.

I totally agree. Pics will be coming soon (within a day or so).
Thus far I have dropped about 10lbs since the beginning of the challenge. I have def gained some muscle too, I feel a bit stronger each week. I actually took my update pics last night and I dont really see much of a difference. I think it may be a little too soon. I plan to measure my BF% tonight, so I will post that after the pics get up. I hope this last leg of the challenge shows some good progress as well. I have been on track with everything except cardio thus far. I just seem to be too busy and too tired to get up early and do it. I stay very active to make up fir it, but im sure I would have seen even better results if I was able to pick up the cardio a bit. Once or twice a week is just not enough. Between this challenege and a vacation I have planned for September 9th...I should be motivated to kick it into high gear for these last few weeks!! :claplow:
Fluogen August 2nd, 2004, 12:00 PM Pics will be posted tomorrow. I had camera issues but they have been resolved and I'll take pics in the morning. Sorry for the delay.
I'm not expecting much progress myself. I wasn't that great with my diet and then I had to take the last two weeks off. I got back to the gym today but won't be lifting for at least another week until my hand gets better. I'll post more about that tomorrow and maybe I'll take a pic of it for you all to enjoy. ;)

We will each post our current stats later.
Fluogen August 3rd, 2004, 01:05 PM Well, as I said before posting the pics I didn't expect much change and I was right. My current weight is 241 and my body fat is around 32%. This is because of two things. First, I didn't eat like I should at the start of the comp. I was working out and exercising every day but I just couldn't get on track with the diet.
The second thing was a prolonged time off. Two weeks ago was supposed to be an off week from both working out and work. I was going to use this time to let my body rest and to refocus on my diet. Unfortunately I cut my hand pretty badly on Sunday the 18th and went in for stitches. This would have been enough but I developed an infection that put me in the hospital from Thursday the 22nd to Saturday the 24th.
Even if my hand had felt okay last week I was too tired to do anything. So those two weeks were a complete waste. The first week my hand hurt too bad to cook so I ate out way too much and last week I was too tired to exercise.
I'm back on track now though. I'm back in the gym focusing on cardio until the cut heals all the way. Where it is located keeps me from gripping too tightly, making lifting impossible. If I grip too tightly the cut reopens.
Here are a couple of pics from this morning of the cut in case anyone is interested. It was really hard to take a pic of my right hand with the camera in my left so this was the best I could do.
Cut hand 1 (http://filebox.vt.edu/users/emolnar/jsf_comp/mid/handcut.jpg)
Cut hand 2 (http://filebox.vt.edu/users/emolnar/jsf_comp/mid/handcut2.jpg)
CL117 August 3rd, 2004, 01:32 PM I have lost roughly 10 lbs since the first pics. In a couple of the poses, I can see a change, not as much as I would have liked though. I guess thats my fault. I kind of fell off the cardio wagon for a while. So any progress I made was from a strict diet and lifting weights, so I really can't complain. I def feel stronger and have more energy. I plan to really buckle down for this last home stretch of the contest. When all is said and done, if I can lose any more fat at all, I will be happy. I will be measuring my BF% by the end of this week.. I will post the results ASAP.
Fluogen...I can def see a positive difference in some of your pics...especially your back pose. GL..and hope your injury doesnt slow you down much longer.
Fluogen September 8th, 2004, 04:03 PM This was supposed to be the end of our comp but due to the fact that both of us have been sidetracked by other things recently we have extended things for one month.
I know that I am back on track in the gym and am working hard on getting my diet under control. My goal right now is to get to 220 by Thanksgiving. That may be pushing things a bit but I think it is doable. Hopefully it will be noticeable in the pics next month.
I'll post some current stats later when I have a bit more time.
Fluogen September 22nd, 2004, 03:19 PM Quick update: I've lost 3.5 pounds in the last 2 weeks. :D
This past weekend I cheated quite a bit or I would have lost more but I'm happy with what I've done so far. Things just seem to be clicking for me once again and it feels great.
I'm still pushing to make my Thanksgiving goal despite the slow start. I really want this though so I'm going to make it happen.
