View Full Version : Pain, Need Help
H3rby Sat, June 19th, 2004, 01:14 AM ok, despite all your warnings of not running due to joint problems. i have been running anyway because of harder workout in less time. i want to lose the weight so badly i didn;t really care.
well for a month it has worked out fine. but now when i got for my nightly jog, my left leg just about 2 inches above my ankle hurts. tonight i went for a jog and i didn;t even feel like i got a workout, i just felt my leg hurting alot. i am quite mad because i know i can't keep running.
my question, i guess would be alternatives. i.e. how long should i ride a bike if i want to get an equivivalent workout to jogging 2 miles in 30 minutes.
TheLemonSong Sat, June 19th, 2004, 01:21 AM Bike for 30 min. and see how you feel.
Always respond to what your body tells you...if your body says "30 min. isn't enough" up the intensity or change the setting if it says "this is WAY too much" lower the setting or change your intensity...Rowing and ellipitcals might be good options for you as well.
H3rby Sat, June 19th, 2004, 01:26 AM what are ellipticals?
thanks for the quick response too

No-impact running machines. I'd kill to be able to use an elliptical regularly.
H3rby Sat, June 19th, 2004, 02:07 AM ahhh, i see. that sounds like it requires a gym membership. i don;t have the money for a gym right now. all my exercising is done in public, generally at night
French Spirit Sat, June 19th, 2004, 02:36 AM Walking up and down a hill would be lower impact than jogging, but you can really work up a sweat. I'm not sure if you have that available.
lmnt Sat, June 19th, 2004, 03:07 PM You might also want to try jumproping. Ellipticals can go for decently cheap - <200. Bikes are always an option, too.
Ansett Sat, June 19th, 2004, 06:37 PM If you've been running daily for a month after a previous life of inactivity, perhaps you should consider the possibility that you've gotten a stress fracture, since the pain is two inches *above* your ankle and not the ankle itself. Such a fracture may or may not show up on x-ray, though it wouldn't hurt to check it out. Either way, I'd suggest a week off from lower body stuff.
Duckman Sun, June 20th, 2004, 03:49 AM walk up and downhill with a 35-45lb backpack. I can guarantee you it'll work :tu:
