View Full Version : RECOMMENDATION: What cage system would you recommend?
MGB Tue, June 8th, 2004, 01:45 AM I'm looking for a cage with high and low pulley (for lat / back work, of course). Also need to be able to do leg extension and curls.
Would appreciate anyone's recommendation (including links if you have them)? I found a lot of things that look close to what I want, but would rather hear about real experiences than guess.
Thanks in advance.
P.S. Does anyone have a leg press at home they'd recommend that's not $1k?
adamc Sun, June 13th, 2004, 11:20 AM I'm pretty happy with my Parabody rack, multi-angle bench and locking leg attachment.
You can see it here:

It's sturdy and well made. Like some racks, the pin holes are farther apart than in others, but it hasn't really been an issue for me.
It's got everything you've mentioned, plus bars for dips.

The top bar in the front of the rack can be used for chins, hanging ab work, etc.
roxy1 Sun, June 13th, 2004, 07:12 PM i just bought that parabody rack about 2 months ago. i love it!! i already had the multi angle bench by parabody, which seemed so rock solid & easy to adjust that i decided to go with that rack. its more solid than any rack ive tried, is a bit shorter than most racks(advantage w/lower ceilings), and the adjustments for the hooks and safety bars is soooo quick compared to some. it also costs more than some, but i figure this was a small investment in my health and something you could keep forever. :tu:
MGB Sun, June 13th, 2004, 08:58 PM Did you get the upper / lower pulley? How much for the entire setup (cage, bench, lat attach.)? Thanks much. This is helpful.
adamc Sun, June 13th, 2004, 10:23 PM I did get the upper/lower pulley ... a 300 lb Olympic plate and bar set ... it was a while ago ... I think I paid near list price. I bought it from kind of a high end shop that delivered and set it up for free. They were great to deal with, so I didn't mind the cost.
But the prices on the web site are about what I paid ...
millineum man Mon, June 14th, 2004, 12:41 PM MGB, Parabody is a good brand, but WAY overpriced. I just got off the phone with a dealer and he said the rack by itself is $500. When you add a Lat attachment weight selectorized plates, it comes up to $1200! The brand I'm going with is Bodycraft. There's a lifetime warranty on everything and the total rack system comes up to only $748 with free shipping. Check it out, bro. http://bestbuyfitness.webdirectbrands.com/product.asp?intProdID=104
adamc Mon, June 14th, 2004, 01:23 PM Try before you buy. I don't disagree that Parabody is expensive. I got it because everything about it felt right ... the bench, the action for moving the pins, etc.
I can't speak to BodyCraft since I've never actually used their equipment. I'll agree their cages look almost identical to Parabody's.
I shopped around in a few retailers and got the system that felt best and seemed most convenient to use.
If I could have found the system I liked available through an internet discounter, I probably would have jumped. But I'm pretty sure Parabody only retails through full-priced dealer networks -- I guess you could look for them used.
But give serious thought to trying ... or at least touching ... before you buy. Some benches, in particular, can be a bad fit, and have inconvenient controls.
