View Full Version : My first post! Getting healthy tommoro! NoxNitro Mon, June 7th, 2004, 01:28 AM -- Arwes Mon, June 7th, 2004, 03:06 AM Hrm, I'm by no means an expert on this stuff (having just started cutting myself a month ago), but it looks like you're going to go into starvation mode based on what you've posted. Of course, there were no stats posted so I really couldn't tell. I *HIGHLY* suggest you check out Marcus's stickied post titled Nutrition for Weight Loss, located here (http://forums.johnstonefitness.com/showthread.php?t=1222). Best of luck in getting the weight off, I can tell you're very anxious to do so! :gl: sublime_4_life Mon, June 7th, 2004, 03:35 AM hey man good job on deciding to change your eating habits...the first step is the hardest. But like the previous poster stated, if you go from your old eating habits to what you just posted 2 things are gonna happen 1) your body will start to starve and your metabolism will go to utter crap and you are gonna have the worst hunger pangs ever 2)whatever muscle you have right now will be quickly, quickly reduced to nothing... dude thats like 1000 cals at most...no way will you survive on that seroiusly you need to revamp your eating habbits Make out a plan having 5-6 (or even 7) smaller meals throughout the day...eat around every 2-3 hours and make healthy choices. THe foods you put down are good so just add some more! Try eating eggs for breakfast as they are very good with you and have lots of protein. You can still have your golean once in a while too (i eat it and total protein around 3 days a week) So add some more chicken and meats into your diet and you need more carbs also. Carbs are not the devil at all so eat them...jsut make the right choices...whole grain breads/pitas, *oatmeal*, sweet potatoes, brown rice etc...steer away from white potatoes and white rice cause they will spike insulin in a hurry Also for your supplements...cla has been proven to work but honestly you dont need it...you can totally change your physique without supps whatsoever but sure they do help...But in your case...just eating healthy and exercising will transform you quicker than you believe. I wouldnt recommend any supps for you right now honestly...maybe whey for after your workouts but thats about it so in conclusion you NEED MORE FOOD just make it healthy choices, do the cardio like you said, and i would incorporate weight lifting also becuase its awesome for fat loss when you first start out. Make sure you post your stats though cause that will let people help you out even more aight? But in your situation, changing your diet from fast food and all the other junk, to clean/healthy foods will have to shedding fat before you know it, i promise you that. Good luck man and feel free to ask more questions IronPhoenix Mon, June 7th, 2004, 04:30 AM You need to eat much, much more than that. You're a 16 year old male; you're gonna need a whole lot of food. Furthermore, you're still growing. Nutrition now can potentially effect you for life. Please, please, don't let yourself go hungry. Eating healthy and working out will be enough, I promise. Get enough protein, keep your food healthy, but I suggest eating as much as you want. Good luck. taffer Mon, June 7th, 2004, 07:03 AM go read some of the links i spammed in the other thread (foundations of a fat loss diet) lots of good info there :) but yeah EAT MORE, dont worry most of us started out thinking that we had to starve ourselves to get results, even john stone himself! but as you learn, you'll go from 1300calories a day, to 2100 in no time, furthermore, you will learn about how to make healthy food choices without having to check a website i really suggest you learning about the GI of carbs, when i was beginning, i ate a few things like rice crackers, cos i thought they were a good carb source, little did i know they were high-GI and have had all the nutrients processed out of them! luckily i learnt fast! also never forget vegies! its a bit hard to type out all the knowledge you need in a message, you get it all though making mistakes, but making sure you fix them, and always want to learn! oh yeah you may wanna do more than 25mins on the bike if its low/med-intensity :) NoxNitro Mon, June 7th, 2004, 09:31 AM Thank you all so much for your responses, its alot of help! Ill add two meals then, that have good protien / some carbs. Also, when I said 25 mins, that is just because this is my first work out in literally years, just wanted to get into the swing of things. I hope to be at 45 mins, at high intens as soon as my body can handel it :p Im about to head out for the gym, wish me luck :tu: Musicguy Mon, June 7th, 2004, 09:38 AM Good responses. I agree... at your age, you will probably get fantastic results with dietary changes alone. Start eating good foods, in small meals, 6-7 times throughout the day. Stay away from refined sugars/flours. These eating habits, combined with exercise and rest, should work wonders for you! BTW, CLA can be taken in much higher doses than the one recommended by the saleswoman... I use it from time to time, and have taken up to 12 of those in a day's time, 4 at a time, 3 times a day. Usually, I take 2 at a time, 3x per day. HOWEVER, as others have already stated, you don't need anything like this... make the dietary changes, stick to the exercise routine... and see what happens! :gl: Skoorb Mon, June 7th, 2004, 11:02 AM Two big mistakes new dieters make is a) Not eating little enough; many people assume that jumping on the treadmill 3 times/week is the ticket to a 6-pack. b) Eating way too little. Nearly starving oneself will see huge losses on the scale, but though a lot will be fat a lot will be water and more importantly a lot will be muscle. We all can gain fat easily - and it's fun - but muscle is a different game :) 5-6 small meals/day all with a good protein source. The food you bought sounds decent, though in the future it may be a good idea to avoid soy proteins. They're inferior to something like whey and for what it's worth I've heard from a couple of sources that the hormones in them can lead to bitch tits (aka chesticles!) in guys. I'm not sure how significant that effect would be, but whey is still the best protein you can take in. blueoblivion Mon, June 7th, 2004, 03:50 PM The food you bought sounds decent, though in the future it may be a good idea to avoid soy proteins. They're inferior to something like whey and for what it's worth I've heard from a couple of sources that the hormones in them can lead to bitch tits (aka chesticles!) in guys. hahahahahaha, that made me laugh so much, you made my day!  now, i'm a girl, and i have just about nothing in the way of boobs, so maybe i should start eating some more soy... i've never heard that claim before, but i'd like to know more about it. and the phrase "bitch tits" will be making me giggle at awkward times all day i'm sure. noxnitro- congratulations on making such a huge decision! i'm 22 now, and i wish that i would've cared that much about my health and well-being when i was your age. i've only been on this board for a short time, but i can tell you that the advice you'll get is probably the best you'll find anywhere. good luck to you and keep it up! it's hard, but it's worth it in the end, believe me! :tu: NoxNitro Mon, June 7th, 2004, 10:13 PM -- cz3ch Mon, June 7th, 2004, 10:39 PM I too am no expert, but one thing I'm learning is. Your body is like a furnace. If you start to excersise/move around you need to feed it. I literally eat all day and am never really hungry and I'm losing fat, and it's only been 3 weeks. it's all about what you eat. Keep your protein high, your bad carbs low (high gi carbs suck, try low stuff like grains, vegetables.. which provide u with fiber, etc). If you eat the right foods, you may find yourself ingesting a lot of calories but still losing weight/feeling great, because you're eating the right type of stuff. Awesome that your getting into it... It's hard to get motivated.. i feel ya :) Cz3ch metron9 Mon, June 7th, 2004, 11:12 PM You said "(note none of my weight what-so ever is muscle)" Try telling a 150 pound man to walk around all day carring 150 lbs, try telling him to take 150 lbs and just walk 100 feet. I guarantee you have muscle especially in your legs they are just covered in fat. When you remove that fat you will then see huge muscles under there so make use of them now with the treadmill and burn that fat off letting those muscles use the fat for fuel. I would leave out the yogurt and honey though and try to reduce more of the carb foods like the bread and potatoes. Replace that bread with low carb wraps they work great even for hamburgers and hot dogs. Heinz makes a 1 carb catsup now that tastes as good as there regular stuff. Get on that tredmil 4 days a week and lift weights 3 days a week witha good split program. Dont forget to eat big one day per week add the stuff you like the most but only for one day per week the famious cheat day you got to have one per week it actually helps you lose weight. I don't see any pictures but I recommend you take them for yourself each week or at least every 2 weeks. |
