View Full Version : questions about loose skin
legend Tue, June 1st, 2004, 02:21 AM now that i've lost 90 some lbs, i'm starting to notice some loose skin. it's not like hanging and drooping or anything, but there are parts of my body, especially my stomach and upper arms where skin is just not being stretched as it should and kind of droops and looks wrinkley. is there anything i can do to avoid this getting any worse? i've heard weight training helps, so would it be smart for me to focus strictly on weights for a while and stop cardio during that time? i plan to lose at least 15 more lbs of fat, so i think i'm going to have a little bit of loose skin is some areas and that is unavoidable. will the skin eventually get tight and if so any idea how long this kind of thing takes? any information on it would be appreciated, personal experience, facts, or whatever. thank you.
taffer Tue, June 1st, 2004, 02:37 AM yeah weight training should help, i hope you were doing it in your weight loss phase! (naughty naughty if you werent)
skin should shrink back over time, really depends on the person how fast
i heard that lemon juice helps, also cocoa butter and vitamin E (maybe that was for stretch marks, better use them anyway!)
legend Tue, June 1st, 2004, 02:41 AM yep, i did weight training (although i wasnt very serious about it) during my initial fat loss phase. does anyone know why weight training helps?
taffer Tue, June 1st, 2004, 02:48 AM i assume it fills your skin up with muscle, instead of nothing! also if you lose muscle, that will be even worse, you will have no tone, and look like a piece of string!
pepito33 Tue, June 1st, 2004, 09:18 AM Just take it easy and try not to lose weight too fast, dude.
Strapped Tue, June 1st, 2004, 10:16 AM Alot of it depends on your age also, skin loses it's elasticity over time and will not snap back into place. I lost a total of 80lbs and made that mistake of losing some a little too fast while weight training and was leftover with some excess skin. You will have to build some mass to bust that skin out. I'm still working on building more mass in my chest area for this problem but it has almost been fixed.
Vitamin E and Cocoa Butter are effective for stretch marks but don't seem to help much tightening skin. SUrprisingly enough, the magic product is Hemmoriod Cream. To a lot of folks this sounds crazy but it's cheap and extremely effective.
Bean Tue, June 1st, 2004, 05:13 PM If you want a sure method of helping the loose skin, you may want to seek a massage therapist, or Acupunctur, depending on if your brave :flex: ..
or invest in one of these maschines, my Gym has some of them, and i personally love it, because it will get rid of any soreness. and it will also burn fat and tighten the skin, although i dont know what the maschine is called, i hope someone can give a lil more info..

Muscle raises your metabolism by 19 times over fat. A pound of muscle burns 37.5 calories a day just sitting there, fat burns 2 calories! If you lose muscle, your metabolism goes down.
Cardio does really build muscle, it can tear it down. You want to lose weight, first - Diet, second - resistance training. If you still have time and engery on your hands, try some cardio but be careful not to lose muscle.
