View Full Version : Net Flix
Glamdring January 30th, 2004, 06:06 PM Do any of you use this service? Used it in the past? What are some pros/cons?
One thing I'm particularly wondering about are the newest releases. If a movie comes out on Tuesday can I order it on Monday so that I'll have it on Tuesday? Or would I order it on Tuesday?
I've been getting pretty frustrated over the last couple of weeks. Anytime I want a movie it seems to be out of stock, and it seems like I can spend $20 in one weekend on movies sometimes. Netflix is $20 to have any 3 movies out at one time and there seems to be no hassle involved at all. It sounds too good to be true which is why I never tried it.

At the time they were very, very slow and it took forever to get discs in. So, I quit and started buying all my DVDs.
I've heard that they have improved a lot, and I know they've opened some new distribution centers, but I don't think you're going to be able to get new releases on the Tuesday they are released from them (someone please correct me if I'm wrong). One good thing about NF is that they carry all kinds of movies you'll never find at any mainstream DVD rental place.
BusyChild January 30th, 2004, 07:12 PM I just go to the video store on Tuesdays when the new movies come out (at least here in Boston) and grab the new releases. Also since I rent from Hollywood they have a 5 day rental period so I grab it on Tuesday then when Sat movie night comes around I already have the new releases. Unless its a movie my wife isn't going to watch then I'll watch it during the week.
There is also a company that does the same thing but for PS2 games. I haven't signed up because I already play too much already with only the 2 games I have.

I have used it, and still have the service. It rocks!

You put it in your "awaing release" queue as soon as you find out about it. When it's released on DVD it moves from there to your normal queue and moves to you in a normal fashion. Of course you can reorganize your queue as often as you like. I often fight with my GF about this ;)

I live in San Diego and get approximately 2 day turn around. I send it in on Monday, and by Wednesday they'll be sending out my next DVD.
Awesome. :tucool:
Of course I could stand to watch them more frequently so I get more movies... but that's my issue.
NME January 30th, 2004, 09:25 PM We use netflix and the service is pretty good. We send our movies back and get new ones two days later. If you watch a lot of DVD's I would recommend it.
Glamdring January 31st, 2004, 11:18 AM Thanks for the replies guys. I'm gonna sign up on Monday for the 14 Day free trial. I'm not totally concerned with having movies on the actual release date... just so long as I have them by Friday which doesn't sound like it's going to be an issue. I'm in East TN and they have distribution centers in KY and GA, so I think I'll be fine on the turnaround.

I also use netflix, and LOVE it. I get movies in 2 days, so I'm always watching something new.(or something i have not seen in a while)
I will never go back to hollywood or blockbuster. I'm a netflixer for life :claplow:
now, only if they rented xbox games!!!!
Whoracle February 2nd, 2004, 05:00 AM I've heard that the waiting list for any big new release is huge and you need to put it on your list when the previews come out. Is this true? That's the big complaint I've heard about it. I'm thinking about it.
CattleProd February 2nd, 2004, 02:39 PM I've been using them for a long time -- since they first started up. I like the wide selection they have, and doing it by mail makes it so much more convenient than going to the video store. Also, if I'm not sure if I'll like a movie enough to buy it, this is a great way to preview it. I keep a regular flow going, so I never have to wait for my next movie.
The queue is cool... there are all these movies I want to see, but I usually forget about them. With the queue, I can just put them in then forget about it.
