View Full Version : Would like a little advice - Nike Triax C6
TeMpTeD Sun, May 23rd, 2004, 05:47 PM Hi,
I think its time I got myself a heart rate monitor, since I have been doing a lot of cardio lately, and a proportion of it is on machinery that either does not have a HRM built in, or it is not possible to hold on (treadmill). A friend of mine got the Ploar A3 for his burthday recently and I was impressed by its quality and accuracy. I have been looking today and liked the Nike range because they look pretty stylish as well as being functional - hence I would not feel stupid wearing as a watch to actually tell the time. I have my heart set on the Triax C6 because I was impressed by all of its features and also liked the look of it too.
My question relates to the compatability between equipment at my gym. Mine uses Life Fitness cardio equipment which I think seems a popular choice generally and wondered whether this HRM would be picked up on their display's? The site's where I have seen it say it will work with 'most popular equipment', well this is popular but I need concrete proof really as I would like it to work with the equipment.
Regards, Andrew

JCMF Sat, June 5th, 2004, 08:19 AM Actually I have had a bit of a problem with Life Fitness over at my gym, and I believe it is the problem with my Polar M61, wich uses a coded transmitter (so that you can wear your HRM near other people using HRM without interference).
What happens is the treadmill system reports a much higher HR, and that makes the alarm go out.
Luckily it stops at 220 bpm (when I am actually at 150), so I just have to look at the watch.
TeMpTeD Tue, June 15th, 2004, 10:44 AM I had the same problem but the other way round, it was my watch that was reading strange, it was reading 220 when I was actually at about 150-155. I found that if the chest strap rides too low on my chest I get some wierd figures. But now I know, is has not failed me since.

Hi, how did you make it work?? Any tricks? I bought a C6 yesterday and found the strap didn't work with any Life Fitness equipment.
A few more questions:
Does your chest strap beep? I can hear it beeps every time my heart beats. The beeps are very soft, I have to be in a quiet environment to hear it.
Can your C6 mark lap time? The C6 tutorial says it can, but the real C6 cannot.
Does your C6 has two alarms as mention in the Nike web site? Mine has only 1.
I am wondering if Nike has made a new version of the chest strap and the watch, and you were using an older version...
Thanks!

I don't see how I would have an older version of it just because mine works with Life Fitness cardio equipment though? I don't know if mine beeps, I've never really listened to it TBH.
Mine works with my gym equipment like it was born to, so I'm happy ;)
ZarrSadus Thu, November 4th, 2004, 05:17 AM I just bought one on eBay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7110193979) a few days ago and I'm eagerly awaiting recieving it! I really liked all the features on it like the calorie counter which some of the other (and more expensive) Triax models didn't have.
Glad to hear it's a good purchase, I just hope the alarms for in and out of heart rate work
vovo Thu, November 4th, 2004, 09:11 AM yeah mine beeps softly with my heart.
i am not sure about the lap time and mine only has one alarm i am sure that i knew all this before i bought it though. i thought it had an average heart rate it said it did on the website but when i got the watch there were stickers on the back of the box and the back of the manual stating otherwise.
otherwise it is great and the zone finder is brilliant.

TeMpTeD Fri, November 5th, 2004, 03:38 AM I am happy with everything about mine apart from the following features;
- You can't just set a BPM 'range' whereby it beeps if you go higher or lower, you have to use the 4 zone thing and update it every month - like who's gonna do that?
- It won't record more than an hour's worth of BPM because the graph wouldn't fit,
- The graph doesn't have numbers on it so therefore you don't know where your heart rate has been,
- There is no average heart rate when you complete your session,
- There is no high/low BPM, so you don't really know what BPM you have achieved unless you watch it often.
Apart from that I am happy.
