When I click on a particular food in the food log (for example, going through John Stone's food log), only some of the foods produced a pop up menu that showed the "copy" button; if I click on "Sriracha Sauce," for example, there is a copy function, but if I click on "Almonds," there is a green question mark box and no copy feature"

Go to someone else's food log and click on different foods; some allow you to copy over, some do not.

You can only copy your buddies "custom" foods, the ALMONDS is a system food readily available to everyone. Simply do a search :)
