This morning I bought some whey protein for the first time ever. I figured everyone else seems to think this is pretty good stuff so I'll add it to my diet.

My questions -
a) The brand is Body Fortress Super Advanced Whey Protein (http://www.bodyfortress.com/pages/productDetail.aspx?PPID=10)(chocolate).

I don't much about the different brands of whey so could you experts 'whey in' with your opinions on this one? I found some reviews on the bodybuilding.com forum (http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=108603471)s and the folks there seemed to think it was okay.

SupplementRating.com (http://www.thesupplementrating.com/listing.php?id=1043) also seemed to think it was decent product.

I can't complain about the price... I picked up a 2 lb tub in the Navy Commissary on base for $13.30 and that seemed like pretty fair deal.

b) When I opened the 2 lb tub and peered in.... it was only just over 1/2 full of actual powder. Now, I know there is "settling of contents" in cereal boxes and such but this seems ridiculous. Is this pretty much standard operating procedure for the whey manufacturers? I haven't personally weighed the tub but I suppose there are 2 lbs in there.

I used Body Fortress when I first started. It gave me terrible diarrhea. As soon as I switched to a higher quality (and more expensive) powder it went away. It's too bad because at the time Body Fortress was only $25 for a 5 lb tub.

You get what you pay for, I suppose. I haven't taken any of it yet but I probably will later today. Thanks for the heads up on that.

Did you take it plain with water or mix it up with milk, bananas, or any other foodstuffs?

(btw, I'm also a Gator alumni)

Until I got used to the taste I used skim milk & ice in a blender. After a couple of weeks I switched to water to keep the sugar content down.

The stuff really DOES settle a *lot*. As long as you got the weight you paid for you are A-OK.

I personally really like the flavor from AtLarge's Nitrean, but it is very distinctive, you will either love it or dislike it (probably not hate it)

I have a friend and he uses Body Fortress Advance Super Whey and he loves it. He has put on some good size with it.

In my opinion, there are better options out there for similar prices.
I love Optimum Nutrition Whey Protein for example, and you can get 5lbs for about $35. Twinlab Whey Protein is awesome as well, mixes very easy and the flavor is great.

HEre is a link for you to know which one I'm talking about

Just a little piece of advice: Buy 100% whey protein. Those Mass or Weight Gainers will charge you for sugar at protein prices. IF you need the extra calories you can eat them if you want to, but your protein powder should be exactly that: Protein Powder

You have to start by thinking 30g/serve for 2-3 serves a day will end your 2lbs bottle in 10-15 days, so start thinking about buying in "bulkier " packs.

Good luck mate!

Cheers...
