Hey people.
It's been a while since I last posted. I've been working hard on getting a master's degree (I'll finish hopefully on June next year), but I'm still training intensely 4 times per week.

Anyways, I wanted to ask a question on behalf of my girlfriend (soon to be fianceé ;)), because she entered a gym a few months ago, started mainly with cardio and some weights, and she immediately began noticing her boobs were becoming smaller. She is tall and thin (5'11", 126 lbs), but she's like a 34D or somewhere around that.

By the way, I bought her one of those support bras from Under Armour, and she loved it and used it everytime at the treadmill.

Now she's afraid of doing cardio, or even weights, for fear of losing more size. It's not that she has lost a lot, I mean, it's noticeable if you knew her from before, but she still draws the attention if you know what I mean. In my opinion, she has not lost that much.

She loves her looks, she loves her curves, but would like to tone more her legs and butt, so it's kind of a trade-off for her. "Should I workout and get good abs and legs, but lose boobs, or should I not train to keep my size?".

Any suggestions or experiences from the ladies out there?

Thanks!

she's simply not eating enough.

if she wants a toned lower half.... wants to keep her boobs... and doesn't need to lose any fat...... she needs to hit the weights and eat at a surplus. if she's losing her boobs it's cuz she's losing fat and that's because she's not eating enough calories.

I probably shouldn't say it, but based on your girlfriend's goals, and her current body shape, I wouldn't suggest that she do anything different.

Your girlfriend will be more likely to lose fat from her breasts than from her butt and legs, because that's where the most of her body fat is being stored right now.

I don't think that she would be any happier about how her body looks with either less fat or more muscle distribution. As you say, it's a trade-off. Whenever I get down to clearly visible abs, and well-defined legs and butt, I'm really quite disappointed at the level of leanness that appears in the rest of my body.

There's a reason that you'll more likely find breast implants on fitness models than on swimsuit models.

I agree with guava. If she's reducing fat (which will even happen if she just maintains weight and "replaces" fat with muscle) the body picks from where it comes. If she has ample "boobage", the body probably will take fat from there, as it's probably her largest fat store. I don't think she can "spot keep" fat any more than I can "spot reduce".

Sorry(?)

:) I’m almost reluctant to enter into this discussion however I think I’ll put misgivings aside for the purpose of making one observation that may not be reflective of the most commonly held opinions but might I think be none the less valid.

While it does seem to follow that a woman who exercises (that is to say lifts weights and does a measure of cardio) will loose fat I would tend to agree with those who suggest the areas from which the fat is lost depends in large measure on individual genetics. Everyone seems to have their own unique pattern. MO.

Having said, I would suggest that your girlfriend might wish to take heart in the fact that there are those who would consider having the discernible striation down the front of the chest/pec area (and that would be just above the breast area) that one achieves as a result of lifting and cardio with it’s resulting weight loss, is as attractive albeit in a different way, than the more commonly prized excess tissue in the actual breast area. Again just my own experience and opinion. I think I need to make one last rather important observation here……….One woman’s “excess” is another woman’s “bounty”. :)

I'll try to say this in the least crass way possible....as a guy, shapely and toned > fat and bigger. You can feel the difference. That said, I think I speak for most guys in saying girls' ideal of thinness is thinner than most guys prefer. And honestly ladies, most of you are beautiful already.

OT: Anyone else getting bra ads when they open this thread? Amazing how that works.
