View Full Version : Chrono's V-diet challenge and results
chrono Mon, August 10th, 2009, 12:12 PM Hello All,
Basically, I'm at ~14-15% bodyfat based on the omron bodyfat analyzer.
My objective is to hit ~10% bodyfat after the v-diet.
I actually started on Sunday August 9th, 2009. End date of phase one will be on September 5th, 2009, which I'll then start phase two for two weeks with two solid meals a day plus shakes.
Height: 5'7 1/2

V-diet Calculator:
Calories for Non-workout days: 1,485
Calories for workout days: 1,815
In between meals, I'll be drinking green tea/water to curb my appetite.
As for the workout routine, I'll be doing stronglifts.com program but at an accelerated rate to increase my heartrate. It's hard but I'm going to try not playing basketball on my non-workout days, however something tells me that I'll be sneaking in a game or two just because I need to upkeep my cardiovascular system. I WILL DO THIS. :)
Biggest issue will be when I head out of town for the weekend. I deliberately planned it so that my one meal per week for phase 1 will fall on Saturday. This will allow me to eat one nice meal consisting of green veggies + chicken/lean steak/fish. The rest of the time, I'm going to measure scoops of protein that I will need for 2-3 days worth of travel.

chrono Mon, August 10th, 2009, 12:17 PM Day 1:
Weight after pigging out at a bbq/picnic at the park: 186
Started my day a lil late. Woke up at around 12pm. Didn't have a proper protein mixture and had to stick with just Whey isolate. I then ran to Nutrishop in Glendora, CA and bought some NU-TEK Pro5 cookies and cream. I then went to workout at LA Fitness in Glendora and had a shake around 3 something. I wanted to kill more time so I practiced shooting hoops until 4pm. I didn't really feel any hunger pains or anything, which is good! All I can say is that towards the end of the night, I did feel a lil hungry, so I had a lil bit of peanut butter which did wonders and got me through the night. Awesome :) 27 more days to go!
I had forgotten to mention that on the previous day (Saturday) I was at a baby shower/bbq and it was definitely difficult to eat healthy there. I ate sensibly but did eat a lil more than I needed to especially with the calorie density of bbq foods. It was good though, so yum! haha.
chrono Mon, August 10th, 2009, 01:13 PM Day 2 10:10am:
Weight: 184lbs
Started at 7am in the morning. I had my morning meal shake at 7:30am. It's currently 10:10am and I'm feeling pretty damn hungry right now. So far I've been doing okay since I've been drinking some tea/coffee to curb my appetite. I also have some water.
I just looked at some of my photos when I was at 207 & 21% bodyfat and man was it a difference. I used an iPhone to take the pictures and so the picture quality is pretty meh, but better than nothing.
Again, I cannot wait until 11 so that I can take another shake to feel full again. Only day 2 and it's like this? Wow. I can do this! I will do this!
11:30am:
Had my two scoops of Nu-tek pro 5. Now I'm chewing some sugarfree gum. What a great meal. haha ;p I just wait until 2:30-3pm for my next shake. This feeling of being hungry is a not so good feeling obviously. :p
2:45pm:
Had my next two scoops of raisins, err, I mean Nu-tek pro 5 and I feel good. So far so good. I think it's time for some green tea now!
My next shake will be around 6pm. I'm probably going to play a game or two of basketball at LA fitness. I'm going to end the day with a one scoop shake plus some peanut butter so that I feel full. Then on with day three.
11:00pm:
Felt very hungry tonight after playing two slow games of basketball. However, peanut butter did wonders for me though. It really made me full! haha. I had a great sleep.
smuhhh Tue, August 11th, 2009, 09:22 AM Wow, good luck. I don't think there is any way you won't lose weight if you keep that up. i sure couldn't do it, but hopefully you can make it! :tu:
chrono Tue, August 11th, 2009, 11:33 AM Wow, good luck. I don't think there is any way you won't lose weight if you keep that up. i sure couldn't do it, but hopefully you can make it! :tu:
Hey! Thanks for the encouragement! It's definitely been hard. Only day 3 but I feel that I'm getting used to the hungry feeling. So far so good. I'm actually having a shake as I'm typing to you. Best of luck to you on your trials/journeys as well! BTW, we don't need luck, we just need to do it!:claphigh:
chrono Tue, August 11th, 2009, 11:38 AM Day 3 8:33am
Well, another day, I have 26 days more to go. Since I've started I've vowed that I will finish, otherwise the efforts of my previous days have gone wasted. Just had my nature's greens shake and now onto the nu-tek pro5. I don't feel lethargic in any way, which is very good!
The only difficult thing is that I'll be heading off on a roadtrip from LA to Bay area to visit my g/f. I deliberately let my one meal day fall on Saturday so that I can eat with her when I visit her. I have to scoop 3 days worth of protein into a baggy so that I can finish it by the time I leave. Why not just drive down with the entire protein container of pro5 you say? It's because I'll be dropping her car off and flying back home. I don't want to bring any sort of powdery items, otherwise that's wasted protein/money right there.
I know I will do this!!!
10:20am:
I just did some quick measurements.
Weight: 182
Forearm 11.75"
Upperarm 13"
Wrist 5.75
Chest 39.6"
Abdomen 34.75"
I didn't have time to do the others but I think I'll measure ones a week. woo! Can't wait until 11:30 for my next meal.
3:30pm:
Just had my third shake of the day. Feeling good. I can't wait to lift. I'm just going to continue with the 5x5 program since it's work so well for me. I'm going to up the tempo though, so less rest time in between to keep my heart rate up.
Oh! So I told my g/f that I was "fasting" and she thought I was crazy. Haha. Only time will tell that this has paid off. Day three isn't as bad as the first two days, I guess I'm getting used to it now. The real question is how will the weekends be since I'll be away from home for the weekend.
Recap of Day 3:
Went to the gym after work, and had my shake there around 6 or so pm. I played a lil basketball and did some 5x5 stronglifts. Man it felt awesome. Granted, I wasn't lifting super heavy, but I was doing pull-ups like nothing. WOO! I went home, had another shake around 9pm or so and some peanut butter. Wow! I love peanut butter. I look forward to having peanut butter every night now! YUM!!!! BTW, no cravings yet :). I mean I do smell some awesome food here and there at work but still, I am able to control myself to not want any of it.
chrono Wed, August 12th, 2009, 11:16 AM 8:15am:
Day is starting off great! I feel on top of it. I'll let you know when I feel like shit. haha. So far so good. Today's stats are the following:
Weights: 179.6lbs
Omron bodyfat analyzer: not very consistent... it jumps from 14.8% to 15%
Abdomen: 34.24"
Forearm: 12.50"
Biceps/Upperarm: 14"
Wrist: 6.75"
I think I measured incorrectly the day prior. I guess this will be my first day of measurements then.
I'll get the other measurements in a bit. I'm getting ready to take down my first shake. :)
2:34pm:
Woo! I was in a training for about 3 hours and that totally made me bored and hungry. I felt like jumping off the boat and grabbing something to eat but I managed to gain composure and drink my shake, which totally made things better. I'm actually going to drink my next drink very soon. I thought it would be easy, well it isn't! Just have to continue with making sure that I have a shake ready to drink, otherwise I'm falling for sure. I can't wait until tonight when I can have some peanut butter. Peanut butter makes everything better!
Recap:
After work I went to the gym, had my shake there around 6pm and played lil bit of basketball. I felt great. I went to nutrishop and bought some more Pro5 protein since I didn't want to be stuck in a situation where I didn't have any protein at all. I left the gym around 7, went to costco and bought some stuff for my g/f, after that I went home and had another shake at around 9pm or so and a tablespoon of peanut butter. Boy do I love peanut butter now!
chrono Thu, August 13th, 2009, 01:28 PM 10:24am:
Day started off a lil earlier than usual since I had an errand to run before I had to go to work. I had my shake around 8:00am when I got to work with a scoop of flax seeds I had just gotten from costco. They're awesome because it makes the shake seem more dense now. I also bought a new flavor of the Pro5 protein, half and half aka orange creamsicle flavor. I love it! Tastes like ice cream! So far so good.
I've decided to measure myself once a week on a Wednesday since I don't think Tuesday's results were accurate at all.
Weight: 178.4lbs
Down from: 179.6lbs
Exchange: -1.2lbs
The omron bodyfat analyzer is going nuts. I don't think I can get an accurate measurement of my bodyfat now that I'm on the v-diet. The variation can jump from 14% to 16% within a matter of a few tries on the omron device.
11:38am:
Just had my next shake. YUM! I love half and half flavor. Been drinking awfully a lot of water too! So I'm heading to the Bay Area tomorrow and am planning to take a whole bottle of protein up and leave it with my g/f in preparation for my next trip two weeks later. It's going to be hard because I'll be in the Bay for about 4 days instead of just 2 days. My g/f is going to give me crap for doing this, but ah, it's well worth it! I'm going to take a power nap in a bit. I'm thinking about cutting my hair after I get off of work, then heading to the gym to workout. So limited in time! I have some more errands to run after that...
2:31pm:
Well, another 3 hours has gone by! I'm about to take my next shake. I'm probably going to wait til approximately ~3pm before I take it though. Out of work in 2 1/2 hours to cut my hair then workout time! YES! I gotta wake up early tomorrow morning around 5am so that I can go pick up some pastries and such to bring to my g/f up north. Gotta sleep early then!
Recap:
After work drank a shake and got a haircut then went to workout. I did a fast circuit. 30 seconds rest in between sets. I was done in 30 minutes! WOO! haha. I had my last shake around 9pm with 2Tablespoons of natural peanut butter. That's some good stuff there!
chrono Fri, August 14th, 2009, 01:58 PM 10:55am:
Woo hoo! Week 1 is almost ending! This is awesome. Feels great! Today I was at 177lbs and the omron was going bezerk. Highest was at 14.7% bodyfat and lowest was at 14.4%. I wonder if I can be in the 13's by next week?????? Interesting but loving it. Pictures are showing some great progress too. Measurement around my naval area is down from yesterday's measurement. I was at 35.5" I believe and now I'm at 34.8".
I had my shake a lil later than usual but that's ok, I'm anticipating for a long drive ahead of me, approximately 7 hours worth of being on the road. All worth it to visit my baby.
chrono Mon, August 17th, 2009, 11:33 AM 8:30am:
Feeling good! Went to the Bay over the weekend and it was definitely hard. All I can say is that I made it through 7 days of not falling but on day 8 it simply was too hard to continue since my girlfriend was egging me on about how the diet didn't seem healthy and that I should be eating and etc. So I broke and ate throughout the day with her. It's okay, I won't be seeing her until two weeks from now. Omron says I'm still in the 14% bodyfat range and since I've eaten carbs, my bodyweight has shot up to 179 lbs instead of the 177lbs I was at when I left on Friday. On Sunday morning I measured my waist and it was at 34.5", which is awesome! I've decided to continue to continue doing the v-diet but when two weeks comes and I go up again, I'll just eat good foods but at a deficit like I've always done. I'm aiming to cut my bodyfat by another 2-3% by the end of the first week of September. Yeah, I know, that I'm not sticking to the v-diet 100 percent, but to be honest, there are so many different ways of doing things, it's insane. Time for my first shake of the day!
2:23pm:
Had my second shake of the day around 2pm. Why so late? I was in some training/meeting at work and it didn't end until 12:30pm. I then decided to take a nap instead of drinking the shake right away. *yawn* I'm thinking of concluding this diet and doing something similar but including whole foods in place of two meals per day, sort of like the transition phase of the v-diet instead. I'm thinking of going bulk chicken breast and marinating it in a zip lock bag then cooking it either by baking it or grilling the chicken.
