View Full Version : Anyone feel bloated when taking Whey Protein Powder? Fitgurl May 18th, 2004, 12:42 AM i must be the only one...hahaha FionaMaeve May 18th, 2004, 01:17 AM No, you aren't. It makes me sick sometimes. simon.karlsson May 18th, 2004, 05:37 AM Last night I made a shake with 100 gr protein powder (75 g clean protein) and I ended up having stomach eches and feeling sick and tired. I think it is the artificial sweetners in the powder that makes one feel nausiated. Especially since I always add more sweetner in my shakes.. :p normally 35 g is ok for me, cause the big shakes becoem so big and foamy... like 3 litres of foam... no wonder it makes you bloated. sterno May 18th, 2004, 09:53 AM I'm not sure how you drink your shake but I've read that if you slow down and sip your shake it is a lot easier to digest. Problems with digestion is usually the cause of a "bloated" feeling. You don't need to take tiny sips, just normal drinks were you take a break after after eash swallow (versus just gulping it down one big drink). Sterno Fitgurl May 18th, 2004, 10:58 AM Thanks for your comments. When i first began to take whey i felt really nausiated, i'm assuming from the sweeteners as well added. I think i'm accustomed to it now, but i'll try drinking it slower. Thanks! dtricome May 24th, 2004, 01:05 AM Hi, For bloating, try something like a generic Lactaid from a grocery store. Zan May 25th, 2004, 11:35 AM When I first started taking whey protein shakes I felt severe nausea and bloating after every shake. Eventually I found out that I was taking too much for my body to handle in one “serving”. I scaled back and the nausea and bloating disappeared. Try halving what you’re currently taking and see if you still feel the same. If the nausea and bloating goes away, try splitting up your whey protein intake to 2 daily servings instead. Thanks Zan, I will give that a try and see how it goes! :D trainiac June 7th, 2004, 11:58 AM I've not seen many people have this problem with good whey protein. If you're lactose intolerant and bought cheap whey, that could be it. Ion exchange whey is expensive, but it's the best. In any event, if whey protein bothers you, try milk, egg, or soy protein. ---Trainiac! http://www.clintphillips.com Strapped June 7th, 2004, 03:20 PM Amazingly enough for me I found that my stomach is VERY sensitive. I could not handle the Met-Rx that I first bought in January because of bloating, then when I tried the Isopure it made me worse and it is a pure protein. Just to try I tried the protein at Costco, same problem. Then I found Met-Rx Long Range and anything ON.. Both of those settle on my stomach extremely well and nothing tastes better than Optimum's Choco! tbosley1 June 8th, 2004, 12:21 AM I've not seen many people have this problem with good whey protein. Ion exchange is missing GMP, so I stay away from it. |
