I have a friend who, for lack of a better term, is very ignorant about macronutrition and it bugs me! Not because I think he should be eating better, but because he is constantly offering me "bad" food and doesn't understand my refusal.

Some recent encounters:

Friend: (eating an ice cream cone) "Would you like some ice cream?"
Me: "No thank you."
Friend: "It's low-fat."
Me: "That's okay. It's the carbs I'm concerned about."
Friend: "Oh, carbs. Oh well, I'm not on Atkins."

Days later...

Friend: "Would you like a Red Vine?"
Me: "Uh, no thanks."
Friend: "No fat..."
Me: "Yeah...the carbs..."
Friend: "Oh, yeah, I'm not on Atkins."

I'm not "on Atkins" either, but that doesn't mean I can eat all the crappy carbs I want. Ugh... What is it with people? (And he's not the only one that thinks carbs are an "Atkins only" concern.)

Thanks for letting me vent.

Just say "No thanks, Empty Calories" instead of "Carbs". That'll help get the point across.

Arg, I know what you mean. The other day, after working out I had to run to an appointment. Usually when I do that I bring along a protein bar for my after workout meal, but this day I hadn't. So, I went looking for something to eat at the cafeteria in the gym (It's a YWCA). Looking over my choices in the cafeteria, I see bags of chips on the wall, A rack filled with cookies, muffins, danishes, and yogurt, pop and fruit juices in the cooler.

I asked the lady behind the counter if they had any protein shakes or bars, or anything like that (I didn't figure I'd have much luck, but I thought I'd give it a shot). Her response to me floored me though -- "Oh, I don't know about that diet". Huh? That kills me -- I'm certainly not on Atkins -- and what else are you going to offer me -- all you have are simple carbs filled with sugar! Is that supposed to be a nutritious post workout snack?

I surely thought that the cafeteria at a gym would know better!
