Let me tell you about my gym. It's a private gym; only about 200 people have access, there are probably only 50 people that regularly go. Most of us have our own key, and it's usually empty when we go.

There is a thermometer on the rowing machine, which is about two feet away from the treadmill I always use. When I let myself in, it says 20 degrees celcius, and after jogging 45 minutes on the treadmill, it is always 1 degree hotter. Today it was 21 when I got there, but up to 22 when I left.

The calories I am burning are actually converted into heat energy. Isn't conservation of energy cool?

How many calories does the treadmill say you are burning? How big is the gym? What other devices do you turn on, lights, tv, and treadmill all make heat.

But lets play with the numbers.

Volume of air = height*length*width
= 3m*20m*20m
= 1200m^3
mass of air = volume * density
= 1220g/m^3 * 1200m^3
= 1464000g
calories = mass * tempChange * specific heat
= 1464000g * 1C * 0.25(cal/g C)
= 366000 calories
Kcal = 366Kcal = 366 :tu:

Treadmill says I burn 2444 kilojoules. (about 580 calories)

I don't turn on the lights or the tv, but I suppose the treadmill could be heating up the gym.

The gym is very small. Maybe 10 feet wide by 40 feet long.

the thermostat reads the the temperature right at the thermostat. by heating up the immediate air around the thermostat you could actually turn on the AC and cool off the gym. maybe that should be your goal. :p

Good plan. I love it.

I'm not sure if there is actually an air conditioner in there, but if there isn't, it'll be too hot to exercise in a matter of weeks.

I was wondering if I should try one day to bump it two degrees.

turn the thermostat down so it is set to about ten below the temperature of the room. it should come on quickly that way. just look around for vents and put your hand on it a couple minutes after you turn down the thermostat. the bigger vents probably pull air so put your hands on the smaller ones. i hope you have AC. i wouldnt want to work out in the summer without it.
