I have been a forum member for years. Finding this website has changed my life for the better and for good. I will NEVER forget the day I stumbled upon johns animated GIF's and realized that my dreams were not just dreams but attainable goals if I wanted them to be. I am now sitting pretty (still working my butt off of course) but forever grateful for the gift that this one man, and all of you of course, have so graciously given to me and all of the people that I try to share it with.

My question, I'm sure is a stupid one: Why, when I log on to the main page of this site, do I see stupid f*ing ads telling people that they can lose 9 lbs in 17 days and other crap like that? If I were a newcomer and clicked on that ad it would be as if I just jumped down the wrong rabbit hole when the truth is right there for the taking.

Is there such a thing as an adblocker..I've heard of them, I think. I don't know how to work one or which ones are good.

Why is John's site tainted with all this meaningless crap when there is a pile of gold in our forums here?

I apologize for the profanity and for the fact that I should have used the search function. I'm just one of those guys that when I hear a computerized voice on the phone I hit the "0" operator button and scream "OPERATOR" when when I'm trying to reach a human on the phone for an interactive and real response. Thx....soooo much in advance and sorry for wasting your precious time. ---Evan

I currently use firefox

John has Google ads, and doesn't get to choose the individual advertisers. They put them on due to site criteria. In this case, weight loss and fitness ads.

The Google ads pay for a significant portion of the expenses involved with running this site. In fact, they are the single greatest source of revenue for JSF. Blocking the ads is your choice, but please be aware that many of the ads pay based on the number of impressions they receive, so blocking has a negative effect. Also, the more impressions the Google ads receive the more attractive JSF is to other potential advertisers. If everyone blocked the ads, JSF would likely cease to exist.

Yeah, I know that some really stupid ads show up; however, as mentioned above, I don't get to pick the ads. Anyone who spends even an hour reading the stickies or other posts here isn't going to have any problem spotting and laughing off the junk ads.

So then John, theoretically, if we all just clicked on these ads would that increase the revenue for you since the ad would pay more? I'll click and then subsequently close the ads all day for you then! :)

I appreciate your enthusiasm, but please do not do anything to artificially boost click-thrus. Just click on the ads that you are legitimately interested in checking out. :)
