View Full Version : I r dum - stupid mistakes you've made when training.
Cubed Wed, April 8th, 2009, 06:42 AM Whenever I get to the gym I seem to lose the ability to count.
This lead to me trying to do deadlifts but with a barbell where I'd forgotten to add the weight of the bar (20 kg counts for me) and I think I'd managed to put on about 20 kg more than I'd expected via plates too.
I was rather surprised at how difficult it was compared to last time's workout, but rather oddly I did manage to lift it.
The small of my back doesn't like me this morning. :dunce:
I can't be the only one with story of being an idiot when exercising, can I?
NCNBilly Wed, April 8th, 2009, 08:40 AM Nope - try loading an uneven amount on the bar when you back squat. It was almost a Tom and Jerry cartoon.
PlainGreyT Wed, April 8th, 2009, 08:44 AM Dude I've even forgotten the number of reps I'd done while deadlifting nevermind the sets  :dunce:

Although it could've led to serious injury (glad you're ok) but the visual of this almost made me choke on my protein shake from laughing :spitwater:
Doubleoqueso Wed, April 8th, 2009, 09:14 AM I imagine I'm not the only one who's forgotten to use a spring clip here and there... :p
MannishBoy Wed, April 8th, 2009, 10:35 AM First time I did push presses I was concentrating so much on leg drive that I forgot to pull the head back and took a BB to the chin. :o

ouch
I've deff. fogotten how many reps I've done before when I was struggling on deads and squats
afraser42 Wed, April 8th, 2009, 12:16 PM I sometimes forget them even when I'm not struggling. My mind... not so good at doing.. well.. anything
I carry a notebook with me throughout my gym journey, elsewise I'd NEVER remember what set I was on
mastover Wed, April 8th, 2009, 01:45 PM I once made the mistake of trying to set a personal squat best 1 week out from a show when my bodyfat level was around 3%, no fluid around the joints, dry, no strength, and no concentration stemming from low carbs. I was in a squat rack that was situated in front of a large mirror. I walked under the bar, took a step back with 405 lbs on it (I also weighed about 152 lbs.) and went down to the hole STRONG. Felt real good!! As I came back up from the bottom, I pitched head first into the mirror as the barbell flew over my head.
Let's just say that the mirror looked a lot better than I did afterwards. lol :)
NCNBilly Wed, April 8th, 2009, 03:52 PM That reminded me of my first attempt at a 350lb deadlift. I was focusing so much on keeping the bar close to my thighs that I lost my balance and ended up crashing into the wall behind me (and consquently under the bar). I was pinned and had to yell for my 13 year old to help poor old Dad roll the weights off him.
SWO LIFE Fri, April 10th, 2009, 10:02 PM I squat in the smith machine, but I decided to head to another gym and use a barbell. Didn't add the weight of the barbell when I was putting plates on. Looked pretty dumb when I couldn't stand up.
TheThirdMohican Fri, April 10th, 2009, 11:06 PM I always forget reps unless I really concentrate and focus, especially on long squat sets.
I've done the putting the wrong weights on as well (confusing 10 and 5 lb plates...)
swedishchef Mon, April 13th, 2009, 03:43 PM Unloading one end of the bar completely after squats...
Sent Mon, April 13th, 2009, 07:05 PM My old gym had just closed down suddenly so I went to a more commercial gym to test them out, and on their pulley/pullup machine (dunno the name really) I was doing some woodchops. I broke the pulley on the machine...
I found out it isn't made for (semi) fast movements. Even during pull-throughs they made noise...

I did this AGAIN. I forgot to add the bar's weight, so was DLing 120 kg instead of 100. Still managed it, though, so I'm quite chuffed with myself.
Interestingly a friend watched me intently on my final set and made me really go for it - and it actually felt easier than the other sets just trying to avoid failing.
(I didn't mention being unable to count.)
NCNBilly Wed, April 15th, 2009, 02:51 PM While doing my chinups on Monday, I didn't get my head out of the way on the descent. Good thing I had my tongue in my mouth.
These are the times I'm glad I workout at home. :D

Banged my chin into the chin-up bar on the ascent this morning .

Haha ditto.

I thought I'd never do this, but proved myself wrong.
Also managed to hit myself in the chin when doing a military press the other week.

OUCH! It times like that where I want to invest in rubber weights.
Cubed Fri, May 8th, 2009, 07:19 PM What a wonderful start to today's workout. I decided to do box squats to make sure I was getting down to 90 degrees. I reduce the weight from what I'd normally use (~120 kg) to 80 kg.
I proceed to lower myself so my backsides on the box and then...
...sit there, unable to get back up.
Fortunately I'd put the safety bars up high so escaping was not too hard, but it was a bit of a dampener on the day. All in public too. :o
