MannishBoy Tue, March 31st, 2009, 10:54 AM Acai berries are very healthy. Probably even more so than other superfood berries like blueberries. However, all of this weight loss hype is just that. Hype.
NCNBilly Tue, March 31st, 2009, 11:07 AM I took Acai as part of the 10/10 transformation and can say that it tastes pretty good. For the money, I'd just buy cleaner food sources and take a green tea cap.
MannishBoy Tue, March 31st, 2009, 11:15 AM I just did a pubmed search on acai, and found a lot of studies on antioxidants, but no studies on weight loss.I won't say I'm an expert on searching pubmed, but I would think I could find something if there was significant research.
I did however find that you can use it for abdominal contrast for CT scans. Wish I could drink acai for my 6 month scan next month instead of that other crap they make me drink

I don't think it will help body fat loss much, but it has health benefits outside of that.
To lose body fat, eat clean and lift hard. If you have time, do a little energy system work (cardio).

Are you using a rehab center? In my experience, they have arm cycles. Regardless, the point remains the same.
You will probably have the greatest success losing weight via diet at the moment, but I don't know of any evidence acai berries are effective fat-burners. :)

CTV reports (http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20090323/acai_090323/20090323?hub=Health):
The consumer advocacy group, the Center for Science in the Public Interest, is warning that not only are the açai diets questionable, many are offered through an online scam.
There's no evidence whatsoever that diet pills made with açai (pronounced a-sigh-EE) will help flatten tummies, cleanse colons, enhance sexual desire, or perform any of the other commonly advertised functions, the CSPI warns in a news release Monday.
What's more, many of these pills are offered through "free, risk-free" 14-day trial offers that are really part of a scheme called "negative option" advertising.
The companies offer samples of the products but then charge the customer's credit card month after month unless the consumer cancels the order.
Acai began attracting attention in 2005 with word that the Brazilian fruit's juice was especially high in antioxidants, which are thought to slow or preventing the oxidative damage from oxygen from free radicals.
The CSPI says in fact, acai juice has no more antioxidants than grape, blueberry, or black cherry juices. What's more, there is no credible evidence that antioxidants in themselves can promote weight loss.

I used a bottle of the stuff, it's actually fairly bland tasting juice, and I didn't notice any change. *shrug*
