View Full Version : Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey with just water? runlikecrazy Sat, March 21st, 2009, 05:53 PM Is this a good or bad idea? IROC-Z Sat, March 21st, 2009, 08:43 PM Is this a good or bad idea? For the last couple of months I've been using ON 100% Whey mixed with water. I have it for breakfast along with a banana. It mixes well with the water and tastes pretty decent. Bt443407 Sun, March 22nd, 2009, 02:42 PM I use it PWO with dextrose and water and it tastes good, one of the better types I've had. I recommend the chocolate and the vanilla if you go with it mcfc98 Mon, March 23rd, 2009, 05:10 PM You can find my 16 flavor review here: http://forums.johnstonefitness.com/showthread.php?t=44915 I only drink my protein with water so wanted to find the best tasting flavor for that alone. needachange Tue, March 24th, 2009, 09:27 AM Yeah I only use water normally too. Every once in a blue moon I'll mix it with milk for a thicker sweet kinda chocolate milk taste. But that can add a good chunk of calories if you do it all the time. leftyx Tue, March 24th, 2009, 09:37 AM You might want to check out GNC 100% Whey Protein. I believe it's made by Optimum Nutrtition and the Mixed Berry is delicious with water, or with dextrose and water as a PWO shake. HevyMetal Tue, March 24th, 2009, 08:04 PM Water is good. If you mix your protein with milk you are automatically slowing down the uptake postworkout. Although there is a bit of a controversy these days as to whether you want a fast-uptake shake by itself or with factors that will slow it down a bit. Milk has Casein in it....which will slow your postworkout shake down. Preworkout I always mix mine with water. runlikecrazy Wed, March 25th, 2009, 02:54 AM Is just consuming whey with water okay? Aren't you supposed to consume some carbohydrates with your protein PWO though? I don't have dextrose so what can I eat/drink that is a high GI carb? Also, is fiber PWO bad too? because I always have a plate of veggies PWO? or is it just bad for a bulking diet but good for a cutting diet? needachange Wed, March 25th, 2009, 09:26 AM If you mix your protein with milk you are automatically slowing down the uptake postworkout. I forgot to mention that I only use milk once in a while for a before bedtime snack if I'm out of low fat cottage cheese and need a replacement. I use milk for that exact reason, the casein to slow down the the uptake of the protein. Other than that PWO I only use water. Falhurk Wed, March 25th, 2009, 09:45 AM I haven't yet tried ON. I did try the GNC brand so, if it's the same then I found that it was alright but PVL is way tastier. I generally only get chocolate. I use only water for my protein shakes. needachange Wed, March 25th, 2009, 10:28 AM I haven't yet tried ON. I don't think GNC brand is the same as ON. I tried that one before, it gave me horrible gas, bloating and well made me blow up my toilet :ohnoes: It didn't taste the same either. ON tastes good, mixes well and hasn't given me ANY of the above issues. shuu Wed, March 25th, 2009, 11:10 AM Isn't mixing protein powder with water a standard thing? I have always mixed it with water and when I decided to try it with milk, I thought I was being creative lol runlikecrazy Thu, March 26th, 2009, 11:25 PM what exactly is 1 rounded scoop? leftyx Fri, March 27th, 2009, 10:22 AM what exactly is 1 rounded scoop? Weigh it. runlikecrazy Sat, March 28th, 2009, 11:01 PM Does it matter that I'm mixing the whey and the water the night before and refrigerate it for the morning? It doesn't affect the whey, does it? StrykDog54 Thu, April 9th, 2009, 01:36 PM I use their diet protein while cutting, the Vanilla is my favorite - I usually mix it with cream of rice and heat in the microwave so it's kind of like a protein brownie :D SWO LIFE Fri, April 10th, 2009, 08:46 PM I use it PWO with dextrose and water and it tastes good, one of the better types I've had. I recommend the chocolate and the vanilla if you go with it I do the same. 2 scoops Extreme Chocolate with an equal amount of dextrose. The dextrose makes it feel thicker. It tastes great with just water too. For a while I mixed with 1/3 milk, 2/3 water and that makes it taste even better. RV8 Tue, April 14th, 2009, 12:49 PM How much (by weight) dextrose should I put in my PWO shake? Should it be the same for everyone? TIA. SWO LIFE Tue, April 14th, 2009, 02:12 PM I've read 2:1 dextrose to protein. I am cutting so I do 1 to 1. Remember that 1 "scoop" of dextrose is around twice as much as 1 "scoop" of protein. |
