Hi all,
I work in an organic grocery store, and we sell organic flax oil. I'm a college student, so usually I can't afford to buy it, but there is a shelf called the "chump shelf" where employees are allowed to take things such as day-old bread. So today I found that they were giving away 1 fl. oz demo samplers of flax oil, and I took the whole bag (about 40 of them!!)...only problem is, while I know its hella-healthy cuz of Omega 6&9 (or is it just one of these?) I'm not sure how to use it or what to put it on...little help? recipes perhaps?
-Thanks

haha, ok n/p (i'm in college, so takin' nasty shots is no problem!) but how do I count that toward my daily caloric, protein, carb, and esp. fat values for the day? THey're one ounce bottles...

I take one tablespoon at a time, the nutrition is:

(per TBSP)
120 cal
14g fat
1g sat fat
9g polyunsat fat
3g monounsat fat

Could differ slightly I guess upon brand, but probably similar.

BTW, 1 oz = 2 tbsp.

Thanks for the nutrition info...now my question is, what exactly are the benefits of flax oil, how does it stack up compared with salmon, and should I be keeping track of more than just fats and saturated fats on my daily intake logs?

oops, i didnt ralize they were in 1 ounce containers. Why not buy a Tbsp and measure it out. I believethe oil provides u with healthy omega fats just like salmon does in order to keep with a 40/40/20 ratio.

Well there are no carbs or protein in it if thats what you mean by should you be keeping up with more than the type of fats in it.

Flax is like any other supplement, you should take it if you're not getting the stuff it offers through your diet. So for example on a day when you salmon you could skip the flax supplement since both are sources of the good types of fats (polyunsat, monounsat) that at the very least help reduce your bad cholesterol and fight heart disease.

Like I said it depends on your diet. On days when you're getting those fats from food, feel free to skip it.

Basically I use it to round out my diet. If I'm looking at a day where my % of fats is going to be low, I'll have a TBSP of it.
