View Full Version : Delayed, Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness

I'm rolling into week 4 of my new workout routine. The second week of March is a planned rest week which I've worked hard to earn.

I haven't had any problems over the past 3 weeks except for when it comes to Leg day. I thought I had decent strength in my legs and this new routine proved otherwise which isn't a bad thing. They've gotten a lot better strength / endurance wise and are leaning out, but the DOMS associated with Leg day has been a royal pain in the ass.

I thought I had this DDOMS licked. Friday is leg day and the only thing that was stiff yesterday morning were my ankles. The stiffness worked itself out after being up for an hour or so, but come yesterday afternoon, my hamstrings and glutes started feeling crampy and I'm back to hobbling around this morning.

What I'm feeling today may not be entirely because of what I did on Friday as yesterday was spent loading 4 truck loads of heavy oak logs onto the back of a relatives pick up truck. I had the wood, they needed wood for their wood burning stove, so we met in the middle. They brought a chain saw and a truck, and everybody helped load it up. About a cord and a half later, all was said and done and my side yard actually looks halfway decent, atleast for the moment. There are still dead oaks that need to come down and be hauled away to a new home.

Anyway, I've ordered ETS from AtLarge which hasn't come in yet. I hoped it would be here on Friday, but I guess I'll have to wait until Monday. In the event that yesterday has nothing to do with what I'm feeling this morning, what causes the delayed DOMS? i understand the whole DOMS deal, but what I don't get is the delay before the DOMS if that makes sense.

* I don't expect ETS to act like a miracle and cure this DDMOS entirely, but it should help some.

Hi Zilla,

I have the same issue, always get leg DOMS.
I'd love to know how ETS works out for you. What about RESULTS. Did you consider it too or is it a different animal.

My DOMS (when I get it) is ALWAYS delayed.

If I hammer something on Monday, say, it won't show up until around Wednesday.

I get DOMs usually when I do something different in the way of exes, reps, etc. Anything that's a departure from what I've been used to for awhile.

After all...it is called "Delayed" Onset Muscle Soreness....as opposed to Instant Muscle Soreness (which for some reason I never get....unless I flat out injure the muscle/tendon).

Are you anywhere near New York City?

As to your DOMS? Make sure you get good hydration and be scrupulous about your sleep. Do you maintain a decent VO2max/LT? (Sounds like you do.) These are the basic things that can reduce the chance and severity of DOMS for some people.

Sorry Zen, I'm in MA. The gypsy moths killed lots of oak trees a couple of years ago and I just happen to have lots of oaks on my property. The younger trees survived, the older ones did not. One of the trees that was cut up over the weekend was close to 90 years old.

I'm getting up to 9 hours of sleep, eating well, staying hydrated, ect. When I get DOMS it usually settles in within hours of a workout, so this "delay" as it were has been throwing me off as it only happens on Leg day.

I can't take Results as it has whey and eggs in it. I'm lactose intolerant and allergic to eggs. I contacted Chris Mason about ETS before I ordered it as I was concerned about the amount of lactose in it. He told me that it's virtually lactose free, so I'll see what happens.

I wish AtLarge would offer more vegetarian based products. I know it goes against the tide, but not all vegetarians like soy. I for one can't stand soy and avoid it as much as possible.

I'll let you know how it goes regardless. I've been told that I should take it 4-5 days before I notice any difference.
