Ok, the title is just insane I know. Let me explain.

In a couple months I plan to do traveling in Europe for approximately a month. I've gotten some serious progress with the SS program and I want to keep that progressing going or AT LEAST in stasis. So during these three weeks I've already started wondering what I can do to mirror the SS program and maintain my muscle. Don't get me started on wondering how I can maintain moderate protein intake during travel... that's hard. (Any tips there on the side would be greatly welcome)

Here is my "idea" of how to maintain my gains so far with SS during travel without any real access to a gym (or even knowing the location of one nor having membership)

Keep the schedule the same, MWF and about an hour for work out.

Work out

A:
Jumping squats or squats with my backpack
Closed fist pushups, possibly weighted with my backpack.
??????? What do I substitute for the deadlift?

B:
Jumping squats or squats with my backpack
??????? What do I sub for press?
??????? What on earth do I sub for power cleans?

General idea is to do each exercise not till failure for 5 work sets.

Ideas? Sure a month isn't TOO long, but I want to maintain what I have worked for.

I don't think you'll be able to do something like SS without weights, but you can definitely maintain your muscle. You may come back a little weaker, but you'll be back to where you are now very quickly.

My suggestions are push-ups, Bulgarian split squats, pistol squats (if you can do them). Load up your backpack and do overhead presses. Put it on your back and do good mornings. Hold it out in front and do unilateral deadlifts.

Deadlift: glute-ham-raises? Might be hard to find a way to do them though.
Press: handstand pushups against a wall?
Power cleans: pullups and inverted rows? I know they aren't anything like the power clean but they will hit the back.

Rather than do them in the SS style routine, I'd just do full body circuits or something with bw exercises. Pistols would be an excellent lower body exercise if you're able to do them. There are many pushup variations too; clapping pushups, tricep pushups, ballistic pushups, basically just anything where you vary your stance.

Yeah, I'm guessing I'm not going to be able to do an SS routine, but that was my first idea.

I guess now it is just finding some BW exercises that would hit the same muscles. Maybe do a full routine of them every three days or something?

You can ask the man himself at http://strengthmill.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=36 but I expect he will bite your head off and tell you that it sounds like you will be taking a 3 week break from SS.

You fly with a 53# ball of iron?

Be kinda tough to fly with one of those, considering the weight limit is 50#, otherwise you pay more.

Mark would probably tell you to take your barbells along. :moon:

I posted on the SS forum. Although, I'm still completely open to everyone's advice here which I value just as much as Mark's.

Can't quite take a 60 pound lump of iron on board that looks like a bomb though...

Not the reply I was expecting.

I'll follow the advice and not worry, but I still plan to find a few BW exercises I can do to maintain the strength.
