So last week I started feeling some pain in my lower back after my back workout, particularly after the Deadlift sets. I've been doing the DLs consistently for a little over half a year now and never had an issue with it, maybe it was just one bad start?

I'm not sure but either way, I tried doing DLs again this week but with lighter weights and can definitely still feel some discomfort/pain. I've started looking into using a back support belt now - maybe I went too heavy? Anyways, my main question here is whether or not I should take a break from DLs? I don't want it to get too serious, I mean I can feel some discomfort even from bending over to pick up something. If it would be helpful I can post a video of my form that I took a few months ago. Please advise, Thanks!

whats your Body weight and how heavy did you go?, It could be that your working your lower back more intense, which could be DOMS, however it may be a case of form. I think the general advice is if it hurts take a break, make sure your eating adequet and dont buy a belt unless your really going heavy, otherwise there shouldnt be a need for one.

Hi, sorry for the delayed response but I wanted to see how my back workout went today..it felt a little better but I can definitely still feel it. To answer your question I weigh about 170 and was DLing 155. I've dropped down to 135 since feeling discomfort. But yea, should I stick around 135? Or take some time off completely? Maybe go back to simple exercises to strengthen my lower back? I appreciate any advice

What kind of "discomfort" are you feeling exactly?

If you've been deadlifting for that long then I'm sure you know the difference between well-worked muscles and a potential injury sneaking up on you.

I say don't do them AT ALL for a little while. You might only need as little as a week off to be back in action, but I'd suggest at least two or three days of complete absence of back pain when you bend over to pick up ordinary things.

Dropping the weight a little bit is a step in the right direction, but deadlifts require 100% of your capacity if you ask me. One small kink could lead to one big fat collapse.

It's not something I've felt before, esp during the DL, it's not excruciating pain but it definitely doesn't feel good. Just not sure if I should go light or give it some time.

I'm thinking I should probably play it safe and take a week or two off and work with other back exercises. Any advice on how to make sure it's good to go before I start DLing again?
