View Full Version : Cutting leg routine
Lifter08 Wed, February 18th, 2009, 02:22 AM im at complete loss for a good leg workout for cutting...im looking to do somewhere around 4-5 different exercises. Just throw me some different routines you guys do. I'm doing legs tomorrow so was wondering. Thanks!
Demian64 Wed, February 18th, 2009, 03:23 AM Squats, lunges and deads alone as general categories present a LOT of options. Hack squat, reverse lunge, Romain dead lift. Goblet squat, good morning, single leg stiff dead lift. What else do you need? Work the hams, quads and hips and you're good.
Foley Wed, February 18th, 2009, 04:14 AM I did this yesterday:
Squat: 3x5
RDL: 3x5
GIANT SET
Leg Extension: Fail
Leg Curl: Fail
Seated Calf Raise: Fail
Hack Squat: Fail
beartoothweb Wed, February 18th, 2009, 09:56 AM If you're not sure what you're doing with things like squats and deadlifts, have someone show you how to do it properly, and have your training partner check on your form every so often. You can really hurt yourself if you do it incorrectly, and failure sets increase that likelihood if you're looking to do what Foley is doing.
For example, a deadlift can be either a hamstring exercise or a lowerback exercise. I do it for low back strength.
IMO, walking lunges tend to be one of the best overall leg exercises as it doesn't take as much weight to do it, and it really works all of the muscles...DOMS will set your mind straight there as far as whether they worked...
Lifter08 Wed, February 18th, 2009, 01:17 PM Thanks for the replies ill probably end up doing a mixture of Foley's workout and add in some lunges. If im cutting should i keep the weight somewhat medium weight so I can kepe high reps to burn more fat?
Barber Wed, February 18th, 2009, 04:42 PM I've had pretty good results with the following:
-Back squats 20reps x 3-4 sets
-Romain Deadlifts 8-10reps x 4-5 sets
-Either: 1. Walking DB lunges 2. DB Bulgarian Split Squats
-Bridge hamstring curl on swiss ball
-Box jumps
I also do biceps on my leg day.

Whilst you have a point about not going to faiure when exercises are done incorrectly, I didn't write about going to failure on squats and rdls. Machine failure is a favourite of mine because they require less skill to work etc. Of course, injuries can happen anywhere.

Just keep the intensity nice and high, push for more weight/reps. Don't just try and maintain strength, try to increase it.
